BENTLEY SUPERLOAD

 Bentley SUPERLOAD is a complete solution for intelligent permitting and routing of oversize/overweight (OS/OW) vehicles.

Components

       DMV VAHPS Web Interface Workstation Interface Network Builder Bridge DB Maintenance Bridge Update Visual Compare

BENTLEY SUPERLOAD Workstation Overview Map

The workstation software shows an overview map of Virginia with user tools.

BENTLEY SUPERLOAD Web Overview Map

The web software also shows an overview map of Virginia with selectable tools.

Intelligent Routing

 SUPERLOAD performs real-time route validation based on the size and weight of the permit vehicle and the constraints and conditions of specified routes. Bridge clearances, bridge live-load analyses, and temporary restrictions help determine routing feasibility.

Intelligent Routing

The Superload System intelligently routes from point A to B taking into consideration bridge clearances, bridge live-load analyses, and temporary restrictions.

Point A Point B

Comprehensive Road Network Modeling and Analysis

 SUPERLOAD has built-in knowledge of the roadway network and provides the tools to maintain a digital model of the highway system. This includes the location of all structures, detailed interchange configurations, bidirectional clearances, and all temporary restrictions. Analysis processes determine all structures involved in the trip and analyzes all vertical and horizontal clearance limitations.

Comprehensive Road Network Modeling and Analysis

 Superload also includes integrated live-load bridge analysis of each structure to be crossed.

Comprehensive Road Network Modeling and Analysis

The system analyzes all structures and interchange supernodes in the system when routing a trip.

STRUCTURES INTERCHANGE SUPERNODE

SUPERLOAD Restriction Manager

 Restriction Manager is a software module that can be added to a SUPERLOAD implementation to help organizations manage restriction events, from full route closure to limited access and route advisories.

VDOT GIS Data

   VDOT was tasked to incorporate the department’s GIS Data with the Bentley Superload software.

VDOT is working with the DMV to implement the Bentley Superload Software.

The DMV is hosting the application.

VDOT GIS Data

VDOT’s GIS Data consist of:  Bridge Location Information  Road Network Information

Bridge Location Information

    Location data of all bridges, culverts and tunnels on the highway system in Virginia.

Whether the structure crosses all lanes or only one direction of the highway.

Vertical and Horizontal clearances.

On or Under information.

Road Network Information

     Highway GIS data. Routable Roadway Network.

Route Numbers Road Class – Interstate, US Highway, State Highway.

Directionality Mileage

VDOT Business Data

   Materialized View of PONTIS; the VDOT system for storing Structure information.

Contains Clearance data of all structures.

The MV_STRUCTURE_CAPACITY_PONTIS table is inputted into the Superload network builder.

INTERCHANGES Interchanges are defined in the superload system.

Superload Network Builder

 Superload incorporates the VDOT GIS Data by using the network builder.

Superload Network Builder

The Superload network builder:  Saves the current network and interchanges.

    Converts the GIS data into Superload’s proprietary format.

Adds bridges to the roadway network based on the mile points.

Adds and updates interchanges.

Updates clearance data.

Superload Network Builder

The Network builder uses the databases:  SDE_VDOT_STRUCTURE_MPST_LRS – VDOT structure location data. Also includes the MV_STRUCTURE_CAPACITY_PONTIS table – Structure clearance data.

 SDE_VDOT_EDGE_RTE_OL_MPST_LRS VDOT route data. Also includes the SUPERLOAD_ROUTES routes to be included in Superload.

– table – The list of  SDE_VDOT_RTE_OL_MPST_LRS route data.

– VDOT

SDE_VDOT_EDGE_RTE_OL_MPST_LRS SDE_VDOT_RTE_OL_MPST_LRS

   These databases are created as part of the RNS LRS (Linear Referencing System) build process.

Updated Quarterly The links and attributes are edited, created and updated by Roadway Centerline Editors

SDE_VDOT_STRUCTURE_MPST_LRS

     VDOT structure location data Contains structures located along the VDOT LRS (linear referencing system) Each structure has a unique Federal ID and VA Number with Jurisdiction Each structure is applied to a route Contains ON_UNDER Field

SDE_VDOT_STRUCTURE_MPST_LRS

     VDOT Structure locations are maintained and updated in RNS (Roadway Network System) via a web interface and interactive map.

The structures are applied to the Linear Referencing System in real time via RNS.

The structures are exported and stored in a layer during the quarterly LRS build process.

The structures are continually updated and edited.

MV_STRUCTURE_CAPACITY_PONTIS

    Materialized View of the VDOT PONTIS system PONTIS is VDOT’s system of record for all Structure data and information Contains all Clearance Data Each record has a BRKEY to link it to the Federal ID

SDE_VDOT_EDGE_RTE_OL_MPST_LRS

     VDOT LRS (Linear Referencing System) Data Contains roadway links with mileage assigned to the link Contains the Route Names Mileage is assigned by From and To measures The measures in between are interpolated along the links

SUPERLOAD_ROUTES

   Table which contains the list of routes that are to be included in the Superload Network Institutional Routes are excluded SR48 The Blue Ridge Parkway is also excluded

SDE_VDOT_RTE_OL_MPST_LRS

   VDOT route data Contains one feature per route name Contains the Route Signed Direction Code

Superload Network

The Superload Network contains the Roadway Network (links and nodes), Structures, and Interchanges.

It also includes the structure clearance data attached to each structure.

Superload Network

The Superload Network contains a routable highway network.

It contains Interstates, US Highways and State Highways.

Two County Roads are also included.

Superload Network

Each Link in Superload contains a Begin Location, Distance and End Location.

It also includes a LID which orders the links in the directions of travel.

Superload Network

In between each Link the Superload Network are Nodes.

Each Node contains the possible travel directions at that point in the roadway network.

Superload Network

Structures Structures shown in the Superload workstation software.

The structures are placed on links based on milepoints.

Superload Network

Each Structure in the network has information attached to it.

•Route •County •Direction •Distance •Culvert (Yes/No) •Horizontal Clearance (Cardinal and Non-Cardinal) •Vertical Clearance (Cardinal and Non-Cardinal)

Superload Network

Interchanges • Interchange Definitions are entered into digital text form and called Supernodes.

Superload Network

INTERCHANGE DEFINITIONS • Text in a table describes the possible turns in an interchange definition. It also includes any bridges encountered in the turn.

Superload Network

The Supernodes allow you to make turns and analyze any structures encountered in the turns.

Structures 09750, 09748, 10000 and 09976 are encountered and analyzed in this turn.

Superload Overview

 All the components of the Superload Network combine to allow the routing of oversized/overweight vehicles.

Superload Overview

 The system will route and analyze your inputted trip based on the superload network created and the GIS data inputted into the system.

Superload Overview

 After the Analysis is complete in the system it will return your results.

 This trip shows 1 clearance problem and 5 load analysis failures.

Superload Overview

 The reports show you the failed structures.

Superload Overview

 A successful trip will return a message stating it found no clearance or load failures.

Conclusion

 With the use of VDOT’s GIS Data the Bentley Superload System will be able to successfully route oversized and overweight vehicles saving time and money.
