• MEA issued Letter of Acceptance(LoA) to
Essar Projects India Ltd. in April 2010 at a
cost of Rs. 342 Crores (Approx US $ 75
millions) for the Port & IWT works.
• Agreement between MEA and Contractor
signed in May 2010.
• Port & IWT works to be implemented in 36
months.

Govt. of Myanmar has provided land for Construction
& Setting up of Contractor’s camp at Sittwe during
Sep 2010. Permissions for import of Construction
equipments & Opening of bank account in Oct 2010.

Senior dignitaries from both countries held on
19th December 2010 at Sittwe.

• Construction activity at Sittwe started in Dec 2010.
• Consequent to relocation of terminal to Paletwa,
preparation of DPR for New road section between
Paletwa and Kaletwa has become necessary.
• MEA has appointed M/s IRCON Infrastructure &
Services Ltd. New Delhi as the agency for
preparing the D.P.R. for the new road section.
• Design and model testing of 300 DWT Barges has
been completed. Selection of Yard is in final stage.
Barges are to be built in Myanmar.

• Reclamation for backup facilities at Sittwe 96%
completed, Construction of Rubble mounted Dyke
70% Completed.
• Construction of Pile work at IWT & Port Approach
Jetty at Sittwe 98% completed. Main Jetty piling
work shall commence shortly.
• Pre-cast concrete works for IWT & Port Jetty at
Sittwe 50% completed.
• Excavation work at Paletwa 15% completed.

• Hydrographic Survey at Sittwe Port and also in
between Sittwe – Paletwa stretch was completed
on 2.11.2009 and 20.2.2012 respectively by IWAI
with the assistance from the local Survey agency.
• 6 Nos of Shallow area for dredging in Kaladan river
was identified. 5 Nos of Shallow area was indicated
in DPR (2002).
• The Location of Navigational Aids, Positions of
submerged Rocks and Dredging alignment are to
be demarcated as per the new Survey charts.

Important Points / issues
• Approval of General layout drawings for backup
facilities was submitted to Working Committee,
Govt. of Myanmar : on 3.11.2011 for Sittwe.
 on 9.11.2011 for Paletwa
Approvals are yet to be received.

M/s. Essar Projects has already expressed that
they can complete the work within the
scheduled time by mobilising additional
resources subject to the receipt of above
approvals without further delay.
•
Otherwise project may get delayed by another
6 more working months.
