PURPOSE FOR YOUTH

Receive Short-Term exposure to careers in areas of:

Technology and Social Skills, Educational Enrichment
Green Jobs and Conservation Projects
Financial Services
Hospitality
Arts, Sports and Recreation
Health and Child Care Services
Emergency Preparedness, Media, Marketing
Entrepreneurial Projects, Business and Retail
And So On and So Forth.

PURPOSE FOR WORKSITES




Prepare young people for world of work by
modeling appropriate workplace behaviors
Facilitating the learning of occupational,
Technical, and Life Skills
Helping youth develop professional networks,
encouraging their best on a daily basis.
REPORTING ACCIDENTS
FOR WORKSITES
If an accident should occur on or near the worksite,
follow these procedures:
 Call 911 for medical emergencies
 Notify the youth worker’s parent or guardian
 Contact the DC Disability Compensation Office at 1888-832-2524
 Report the accident to your Supervisor
 Call DOES Office 202-698-3492
 Prepare a written accident report and forward a copy
to DOES Office.

SUPERVISORS RESPONSIBILITIES








Obtain Security Clearance
Monitor Hours of Work
Enforce CitiWide CTC rules and regulations
Monitor participants time and breaks
Enforce Emergency procedures
Provide Access for Communication during
emergency times
Enforce safety procedures and report incidents.
Provide clear communication to participants about
our expectations (CitiWide’s and our sponsor’s)
RESPONSIBILITIES OF DOES
SERVICE SPECIALIST






Support CitiWide CTC staff in the implementation
of DOES programs
Provide onsite training and orientation to CitiWide
staff
Monitor and enforce program goals and objectives
Mediate for problems that may arise between youth
workers and supervisors
Monitor worksites and ensure that youth are
receiving meaningful and productive experiences
Provide technical assistance to worksites
2009 DOES YOUTH WORKERS
AGE RANGE FOR CITIWIDE WORKSITE
The age range for this worksite is:
14- 15 years Old
Hours of Operation: 8am – 8pm (Mon-Fri)
Maximum Hours Per Week = 20 hours
No Over Time is Permitted for this Worksite.
Three Sessions



8am-12noon – 39 Youth
12noon – 4pm – 39 Youth
4pm – 8 pm – 39 Youth
If you are above this age, please see the Executive Director for a
different position.
PROBLEMS ON THE JOB



Encouraged to discuss and resolve problems
initially;
Notify DOES Service Specialists immediately
for resolution
Contact DOES Service Specialists for help;
SEXUAL HARRASSMENT
Definition: Unwelcome attention of a sexual
nature. It is harmful and it is illegal.
 Sexual touching, grabbing, pinching or
intentionally brushing up against someone in
a sexual way.
 Obscene comments, looks, teasing and
rumors
STEPS TO REPORT
SEXUAL HARASSMENT

Step 1: Youth Worker/Parent/Guardian: report to DOES Office of Youth
Programs;

Step 2: DOES Service Specialist: completes a preliminary report and
transfer of youth to new site;

Step 3: Office of Youth Programs: notify EEO Officials or appropriate
authorities;

EEO Officials: Begins appropriate investigation of events;

EEO Officials: refers event to Office of Human Rights if after
60 days the case is not resolved.
GRIEVANCE PROCEDURE
Note:
CitiWide CTC does not discriminate on any basis. Participants are encouraged to report any impartial treatment
to DOES Office.
Youth are protected by the DC Human Rights Act of 1977.
STEPS TO REPORT ANY GRIEVANCES

Step 1: Discuss the issue with your supervisor, if the supervisor does not
resolve the issue, report to the Executive Director who will then report to
the DOES Office if the issue is not resolved amicably;

Step 2: If, after these the issue is not resolved, DOES Service Specialist
will request informal hearing with the EEO Officer.
PARTICIPANTS ABSENTEESIM,
TRANSFER AND TERMINATION

Youth must give advance notice of intention to be absent
from work regardless of reason. Ways to notify us are:
In Person, By Phone, Email, Fax - Each Day
If absence continues – 3 days consecutively, CitiWide
Supervisor will notify DOES Service Specialist,
If youth staff has formed a habit of absenteeism – notify
DOES Service Specialist.
CitiWide Supervisor can schedule a makeup hours if absence
is properly justified.
No Over time work and hours are allowed.

Notice: No Youth will be paid for being absent.





TRANSFERS




All requests for transfers or termination must be submitted to
DOES Office
A letter stating reason for this request will be submitted to
DOES Office
Ask DOES Service Specialist for assistance on Transfers and
Terminations;
DOES will not honor requests for transfers unless: There are:




Safety issues (must have police report)
Health concerns (doctor’s report)
Site closure, etc.
Transfers are normally discouraged.
TERMINATIONS
Youth Workers May Face Terminations
For The Following Reasons:







Drugs: Possession, sale, use (illegal drugs or alcohol or cigarettes)
Excessive Absenteeism: Failure to report to work – 3 consecutive days
without prior approval
Disruptive Behavior: Fighting, physical or verbal assaults, or any act that
endangers the well-being of co-workers
Theft: Stealing property from the worksite, employees, or to her youth
workers.
Falsifying Documents: Your records, or others, signing another youth
worker’s time record; attempting to pickup or ascertain another youth
workers’ debit card or personal identification number (PIN)
Insubordination: Refusal to adhere to CitiWide’s rules and regulations
Harassment: Verbal, Sexual, or Physical – these could lead to legal
actions too.
TERMINATION PROCEDURE





Step 1: CitiWide Officer counsels youth verbally,
and provides warning to youth; If no improvement,
Step 2: CitiWide Officer reports termination request
to DOES Service Specialist
Step 3:Submit Unusual Incident Report with all
supporting documents to DOES Service Specialist;
Step 4: DOES will review request and report back to
CitiWide Officer within 24 hours
Step 5: DOES will send out official termination
letter to youth.

No external devices in the computers
No Porn or other prohibited sites
No Facebook, Myspace, Twitters, etc.
No music
No noise or throwing things
Please focus on your work
Please being writing materials (note books and pens
and pencils).
EMERGENCY INFORMATION

Incase of a medical emergency, please call 911 for an
ambulance.

Incase of fire emergency – please proceed to the exit
through the lobby area and wait in the outside circle
in front of the Woodner Building.

LUNCHES EATEN AT CITIWIDE FACILITIES.
ONLY DC OSSE SERVED MEALS WILL BE ALLOWED IN OUR
OFFICES.
YOUTH WORKERS WHO ORDER OUTSIDE MEALS OR PIZZAS
SHOULD EAT OUTSIDE CITIWIDE FACILITIES. YOU ARE
HEREBY NOTIFIED.
