PLASMON - Kick-off-meeting, Budapest, February 14..15, 2011
Continuous observations of geomagnetic field run
by Institute of Geophysics PAS
Jan Reda
Institute of Geophysics
Polish Academy of Sciences
(IGFPAS)
Place of work:
- Parent organization: Institute of Geophysics Polish Academy of Sciences
(acronym: IGFPAS)
- Head of Research Group for Geomagnetic Observations in Central Geophysical
Observatory at Belsk, ~50km south-west of Warsaw
Work interests:
- Methodology of geomagnetic observations: absolute measurements, recording of
variation of geomagnetic field, data acquisition for geomagnetic observations,
data processing in geomagnetic observatories
- Practical aspects of magnetotelluric soundings
- Geomagnetic activity, e.g. indices of geomagnetic activity
- works in Definitive Data subcommittee of INTERMAGNET program,
collection of definitive data and preparation of final compilation of yearly DVD
containing data from all INTERMAGNET observatories (chairman of this
subcommittee)

Observation in frame of MM100

Research magnetic pulsations based
on the network of magnetometers located
approximately on the magnetic meridian.

One per few months 1sec data
are transmitted to Tihany (MM100 centre)

Belsk - since 2005
Suwałki - since 2007

Close cooperation with Eotvos Lorand
Geophysical Institute
SUWAŁKI
BELSK
Observation in frame of IMAGE network
(International Monitor for Auroral Geomagnetic Effects)
HORNSUND

The prime objectives of IMAGE are to study
auroral electrojets and moving two-dimensional
current systems.

Hornsund since 1993

On average one per month 1sec data are
transmitted to Helsinki (IMAGE centre)
Observations of Schumann resonance phenomena

Continuous recording of two horizontal elements of
magnetic field and vertical element of electric field in
the ELF frequency range

Sampling rate 100Hz

Continuous recording in Belsk and Hornsund
since 2005 and 2004 respectively.

Close cooperation with Geodetic and Geophysical

Field works
-
Magnetotelluric or geomagnetic deep soundings (usually each year)
