WHAT IS NYAA ?

NYAA is a member of the Duke of Edinburgh’s (United Kingdom) Award International Association, which operates in 120 countries.

Singapore – NYAA launched in 1992 by the President of Singapore

To date, more than 130,000 Singaporeans had attained NYAA

HOW ABOUT SKSS?

The following students had been awarded NYAA Bronze awards:

• 203 Sec 4 students graduated in 2012 • 160 Sec 4 students graduated in 2011 More than SKSS 600 youths awarded NYAA Bronze todate.

AIMS OF NYAA?

To encourage young people between the ages of 14 and 25 years to develop personal qualities of self-reliance, perseverance and a sense of responsibility to themselves, to society and to the nation.

The participant is judged on personal achievement measured against original circumstances and potential capabilities.

3 LEVELS

BRONZE AWARD - youths aged between 14 to 25

SILVER AWARD - youths aged between 15 to 25

GOLD AWARD - youths aged between 16 to 25

How to get a NYAA Bronze Award?

You must fulfil four components:

1.Adventurous Journey/Expedition 2. Physical Recreation (20 hours over 8 weeks) 3. Skill Development (6 months) 4. Community Service (15 hours over 3 months)

NATIONAL YOUTH ACHIEVEMENT AWARD The School will help you as follows: 1.Adventurous Journey/Expedition

Through Camp from 7 to 9 Jan 2013

2. Physical Recreation (20 hrs over 8 weeks)

Through PE lessons, NAFA & Sports Fiesta

3. Skill Development (6 months)

Through the Sec 2E/NA Science & Sec 2NT Music Lessons

4. Community Service (15 hours)

Through the school’s CIP Programme (e.g. Newspaper Collection on 19 Jan 2013)

NATIONAL YOUTH ACHIEVEMENT AWARD CCA Points NYAA BRONZE AWARD – 2 CCA Points COMMUNITY SERVICES hours from NYAA can be used to compute CIP hours in school: 24 – 39 hours - 1 point 40 – 59 hours - 2 points 60 – 79 hours - 3 points 80 – 99 hours - 4 points > 100 hours - 5 points

NATIONAL YOUTH ACHIEVEMENT AWARD What must you do to achieve NYAA award?

1. Registration

Submit your NYAA Registration by 4 Jan 2013.

There is a registration fee of $7 to be deducted from Edusave. Prepare a passport size photograph.

2. Reflections

You will write down your thoughts and reflections during the Camp, PE Lessons, Skill development & CIP programme.

The focus of reflection is to show personal qualities achieved through self-discipline and commitment.

Don’t worry, your camp instructors and PE / Science / Music / Form Teachers will guide you.

NATIONAL YOUTH ACHIEVEMENT AWARD What must you do to achieve NYAA award?

3. Award Diary and Record Book

You will receive an Award Diary and a Record Book through your Form teacher. Fill in the details and attach a photograph.

4. Submission

Upon completion of the four required components, the school will submit your Award Diary and Record to the NYAA Council for endorsement.

Active participation in Camp, PE, CIP & Skill Development Programme

Cooperation with your instructors and teachers

Commitment - constant update in diary/reflections to reflect qualities attained, self discipline, motivation etc

It is an exciting personal challenge to young people between 14 and 25. It is a balanced program of activities designed to equip youth with personal qualities and skills to make a difference to themselves, the community and the world.
