Mission
The mission of the Early Childhood Education
program is to prepare students for employment in
the child care industry and to provide supplemental
professional enrichment training for persons
already employed in the child care industry.

Child Care Worker
• Students complete the entry level 40 hour
Department of Children and Families State
Mandated Training plus 5 Hour Literacy
Training, which prepares students for the
State Mandated Child Care Exams. This
training is available weekdays, evenings or
Saturdays.

Early Childhood Education/
CDA Equivalency
• Students complete the 600 hour training
leading to the Florida Child Development
Associate Equivalency Credential. The
training consists of 480 hours of on-the-job
training and 120 hours of related classroom
instruction. This training is available
weekdays or evenings.
CDA Schedule
• Full time morning classes, Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 12
noon, January 4 to May 23, 2006; TABE test required.
Classroom instruction & work experience in VPK classroom at
Orlando Tech.
New Session Begins Wednesday, January 4, 2006
THIS IS THE ONLY CDA PROGRAM AVAILABLE FOR PEOPLE NOT
EMPLOYED IN THE CHILD CARE FIELD
• Co-op classes, must be working full time in child care center
under direction of credentialed supervisor. TABE test required.
Classroom instruction at Orlando Tech; work experience on job
site.
Evening classroom instruction: Tuesday nights 6:00 – 9:00 p.m.

Apprenticeship/
Child Care Specialist
• The Florida Department of Education Child
Care Development Specialist Certificate,
consists of 4,000 hours of on-the-job
training and 300 hours of related classroom
instruction. The training is a Florida CDA
Equivalency program. Class times are Monday
and Wednesday evenings, 6:30 p.m.-8:45 p.m.
Daytime on-the-job employment in the field
is required. Tuition is free. Attendance at
Orientation is MANDATORY.
Apprenticeship Orientation
Schedule

Orientation is required for those requesting entrance into the
Apprenticeship Program. Orientations are at 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at
Orlando Tech
• Bring a FL drivers license or picture ID, HS diploma or GED
and DCF certificates & other educational/ training
certificates if available. (Please verify time and date)

• Minimum of 18 years old
• High School Diploma or GED
• Meet minimum basic skills levels

Registration Procedures
*Visit Central Admissions at Orlando Tech.
Make sure to bring a Florida picture
identification and your Social Security Card OR
one other form of identification.
*Pay $25 application fee.
*Register for the T.A.B.E. test/T.A.B.E. test is
given Monday-Thursday, 8:00 a.m.-5:30 p.m.
(The T.A.B.E. test is not required for the 45
Hours DCF State Mandated Training)
*Meet with Counselor
*Register for your selected program!
Converting or Renewing Your CDA
• Orlando Tech also offers classes to help you
convert your CDAE to a national CDA and/or
renew your existing CDA/CDAE
MORE INFORMATION TO COME
Child Care Center Operations
(Leading to Director’s Credential)
• Child Care Center Director: Students
complete the coursework and earn the
certificate “Overview of Child Care
Management.” This certificate provides
students with part of the documentation
required to apply for the Florida Director
Credential. This 45 hour course is currently
available on Tuesday evenings, 5:30-8:30 p.m.
(Additional classes may be scheduled when
there is sufficient demand).

• Click on “View My Transcript”
• Follow the on-screen prompts to view your
transcript
To Ensure Your Staff Credential
Shows on Your Transcript…
• Complete a 5211 form
• Submit to DCF address on form with
required documentation
• Your staff credential will appear on your
transcript as a result of submitting the
5211 form and documentation to DCF
Professional Enrichment
Training
• Students participate in short-term, focused
classes that provide enriched understanding
of early childhood curriculum, classroom
management and other professional
issues. Students can earn in-service hours or
CEUs, which can be used for credential
renewal.

Additional Requirements
for ALL Programs Longer than 20 Hours
• A parking decal is required for each vehicle
used by students to attend Orlando Tech.
Parking fee is currently $25.00. Books should
be purchased from the Book Store prior to
the first day of class; Costs vary according to
class. Go to the Business Office for your
book(s) when the Book Store is closed.
• Photo ID should be obtained from the Photo
ID Room and must be worn at ALL times
