Local Faculty Group (LFG)
Local Education Provider (LEP) Visits
Local Academic Board (LAB)
•In each Local Education Provider (LEP), established by KSS
•Receive information from Local Faculty Groups (LFGs)
•Fulfil the educational governance function
•Monitor and oversee the quality of training
•Centralised conduit of communication
•Meet 3 times a year
•Review and consider reports from LFGs
•May initiate LEP internal review of programmes
•Host and manage visits to LEPs
•Detailed remit is contained in GEAR
Local Faculty Group (LFG)
•Established and maintained by Local Education Providers (LEPs)
•One for each specialty within the LEP
•Responsible for ensuring LEPs deliver high quality postgraduate
medical education
•Ensure systems are developed, implemented and evaluated.
•Must comply with
•the approved curriculum of the Royal College,
•the GMC’s ‘Good Medical Practice,’
•Relevant GMC publications
•the NHSLA Risk Management Standards for Acute Trusts, CQC,
Primary Care Trusts and Independent Sector Providers of NHS Care.
Local Education Provider (LEP) Visits
•All core and selected higher specialties are visited in each LEP
•KSS Deanery visiting team
•In line with the GMC framework for quality assurance of training
•Areas of concern or good practice are noted and reported
•Reports are delivered by the LFG and LAB to the KSS Deanery Quality
Management Steering Group for consideration.
•Reports feed into Annual Specialty Reports

What is Revalidation?
The GMC states:
‘Revalidation will be our new way of regulating
licensed doctors that will give extra confidence
to patients that their doctors are up to date and
fit to practise’

Who needs to be revalidated?
• All doctors fully GMC registered with a
licence to practise
– Including Foundation year two and specialty
training trainees
When is Revalidation being launched?
• Launch date: 3rd December 2012
– GMC aim to have revalidated the majority of
licensed doctors by end of March 2016 (for
the first time)
When do I need to revalidate
• O & G trainees have more than five years
to CCT
• Revalidate five years from the date you
gained full GMC registration with licence to
practise, and again at the point of eligibility
for CCT
• The process will then run in a five year
cycle as long as you remain fully GMC
registered with licence to practise
How will you revalidate?
• Each doctor will be assigned to a designated body
(O & G, KSS Deanery)
• The designated body has a Responsible Officer
(RO)(Prof Abdol Tavabie, KSS Post Graduate
Dean)
• Responsible Officer will make an annual
recommendation to the GMC based on your
participation in the ARCP process as to whether
you:
– Are up to date,
– Fit to practise
– Should be revalidated
How will you Revalidate cont….
• It is your responsibility to ensure that your
RO is correctly allocated
– If you transfer to a new Deanery your RO will
become your new Post Graduate Dean
– If you leave training/complete training you
must nominate a new RO as appropriate for
your new designated body
How will you Revalidate cont….
• Use evidence from your ePortfolio as
supporting information to show that you
are meeting GMC professional standards
in daily practice:
– Meeting Curriculum requirements
– Meeting Training Programme requirements
– ARCP Outcome form
– Enhanced Form R
– Educational Supervisors Report
Enhanced Form R
• You will need to complete the enhanced
Form R annually and return to KSS
Deanery
– Personal Details, NTN, GMC Number
– Details on scope of practice
– Significant events (Significant Untoward
Incidents (SUIs) / Critical Incidents)
– Complaints and Compliments
– Probity and Health Statements
• Signed by post graduate dean
