SERVICES
PPECB - INTRODUCTION
Since it’s inception in 1926, PPECB
participated and assisted Exporters – to
ensure that perishable products are handled,
stored and transported at specified/optimum
temperatures.
It is PPECB’s duty therefore to assist and
create world-wide confidence in South African
perishable products, through certification of
good practices.

PPECB – COLD CHAIN ROLES
We must promote consistency and ensure that
optimum procedures, handling and stowage
techniques are applied in suitable transport
equipment.
PPECB Services play a pivotal role, in order to
ensure that all products are carried at
optimum conditions.
Risk management, not only for exporters and
producers, but also for Vessel’s crew, is part
of our daily duties.

CHANGING PATTERNS IN OUR MARKETS
Containers vs. Conventional Reefers
Container exports are growing = 73% / 27% split
 Dec 96%
 Cit 60%
Move back to Reefer & Ambient trains
Specialized shipments = 16 Countries. (JAP/USA)
Lack of newly build conventional reefer vessels
(14% scrapping ratio)
Bigger container vessels – specific requirements
Port development – in order to handle bigger volumes Maputo to become a special shipment shipping port
Regulated > deregulated environment > now
into a food safety era
