Now is the time to check payments made to vendors
and see if you need to obtain W-9 forms required for
1099-Misc reporting.
Who Needs a 1099?
Individuals, sole proprietors, attorneys (see note below),
partnerships and certain LLC's to whom you have paid more than
$600 in rents, services (including parts and materials), crop insurance
proceeds, cash paid from a notional principal contract to an individual,
partnership or estate.
You must also file Form 1099-Misc to each person from whom you have
withheld any federal income tax under the backup withholding rules
regardless of the amount.
NOTE: Attorneys fees (including corporations) over $600 must be
reported.
Exceptions
 Payments to a Corporation.
 Payments for merchandise, telephone, freight, storage, and other
similar items.
 Payments of rent to real estate agents.
 Wages paid to employees.
 Reimbursed employee and independent contractor business
expenses, providing proper accounting has been submitted to the
taxpayer.
