Education (Additional Support for Learning) (Scotland) Act
2004
Child has additional support needs if the child:
• is likely to be unable, without the provision
of additional support, to benefit from school
education.
Additional support means:
• provision which is additional to, or
otherwise different from, that generally
available to those of the same age.

What is the ASL Act?
–Aims to ensure that all children and young people
with additional support needs receive the necessary
help to ensure they benefit from school education.

(CSP) and a GIRFEC Plan
– CSP is a statutory plan – statutory
requirement to prepare one.
– Where there is multi-agency intervention
GIRFEC principles point to having a single
planning process.
