USING DATA DIRECTOR TO INFORM
PROGRESS TOWARDS STATE
ASSESSMENT
MIDWAY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
HIGHLINE SCHOOL DISTRICT
GOALS FOR OUR TIME TOGETHER:
• Learn about targeting instruction towards essential
standards
• Learn about protocols for successful grade level
data collaboration
• Gain ideas about how distractor data can inform
instruction

FOCUS ON THE ESSENTIAL STANDARDS
• “Looking forward” at Essential Standards being assessed on
the upcoming benchmark assessment using the Yearlong
Assessment Blueprint
• Analyzing the WA State Performance Expectations to get
more detailed information
• Reviewing items from Data Director as examples
• Looking at upcoming chapter/unit work
MATH BENCHMARK ASSESSMENT
• Given three times a year
• Fall, Winter, Spring
• K-6
• Complete prior to Measurement of Student Progress (MSP)
• Approximately 24 items per assessment
• 6 items per essential standard
• Scored onsite
• Scanned same day
• Teachers have data immediately
LOOKING AT DATA
• Meet as a staff to review Data Director access
• Identify reports that will be most useful to our work
• Give some time to initially look at the data
• Begin the reflection towards “next steps”
USING THE PROTOCOL
• Grade Level Teamwork
• Analyzing Data for Strengths – Performance
Expectation
• Analyzing Data for Challenges – Performance
Expectation
• Distractor Analysis from Data Director
• Planning Instruction/Intervention Support
PLANNING INSTRUCTION
• What strategies will we implement as a team to improve
student achievement based on the data?
• Use Data Director item bank to collect similar items to be
used for extra practice and assessment.
• What evidence will show that student achievement
improved as a result?
MONITORING DATA
• Using multiple sources of data to monitor student
progress with a “mini-action plan”
• Making adjustments along the way
• Monitoring progress towards our target
• Reviewing MSP Data and our target students
