관계대명사/수의 일치
Lesson3 관계대명사
두 문장을 하나로 연결하는 접속사와 대명사의 역할을 동시에 하며,
주격,소유격,목적격이 있다. 선행사가 사람일 때는 who를 쓰고, 사물
이나 동물일 때는 which를 쓴다.

1. 관계대명사 What:
자체적으로 선행사를 포함하고 있는 관계대명사로 ‘~하는 것’으로
해석한다. 관계대명사 what은 the thing which[that]로 바꾸어 쓸 수
있다.
That is the thing. I want to say it.
➡ That is the thing which[that] I want to say.
➡ That’s what I want to say.
2. 관계대명사의 생략
목적격 관계대명사와 「주격 관계대명사+be동사」는 생략할 수 있다.
① 목적격 관계대명사 which, who(m), that 등은 생략될 수 있다.
Japan is a country (which) everybody knows.

She is the scientist (whom) I want to meet.

Is there anything (that) I can do for you?

② 주격 관계대명사와 be동사는 함께 생략할 수 있다.
Look at the man (who is) walking over there.

Lesson3 수의 일치
주어의 인칭과 수에 따라 동사의 형태가 변하게 되는데, 이렇게 주어의 수와
인칭에 맞는 형태의 동사를 쓰는 것을 수의 일치라고 한다.
단수 취급
①「every, each + 단수명사 + 단수동사」의 형태일 때
e.g. Every man wishes to live a long life.

② 과목명, 국가명, 책 제목 등이 주어일 때
e.g. Physics is hard to study.
과목명
③ 시간, 거리, 가격, 무게 등이 하나의 단위로 사용될 때
e.g. Two years is not a long time.
