IBM Flex System介紹

We started with a clean sheet of paper…
1. Hardware management “built-in” – nothing to install
2. Make advanced virtualization more consumable (lower the
skills required to operate a highly virtualized system)
3. Deliver platform pre-configured and optimized for virtualization
(storage virtualization and network virtualization built-in)
4. New, dramatically simpler application deployment models
5. But yet, maintain full compatibility with current workloads
Expert
integrated
systems

Built-in Expertise
Capture and automate what
experts do – from
infrastructure patterns to
application patterns
Integration by Design
Deeply integrate and tune
hardware and software – in a
secure, built for cloud, readyto-go, workload optimized
system
Simplified Experience
Make every part of the IT
lifecycle easier - with
integrated management and a
broad open ecosystem of
optimized solutions

We took a different approach…
New class of Integrated System:
• No-compromise hardware, with latest Power, x86,
advanced storage and networking and choice of I/O.
• Full-function management node, which integrates
IBM management technology for servers, storage,
network and virtualization management
• Factory installed, fully packaged solutions
drive simple setup (pull it out of the box,
plug it in and boot it up)
• Single product streamlines ordering, tracking,
receiving, installing and running
To create an integrated system, we discovered that we first had to better
integrate ourselves…

Configuration Patterns: Nov 2012
Configuration Patterns enable simpler and faster configuration & deployment
 Configuration Patterns
˗
˗
˗
˗
Intuitive step-by-step configuration flow
Capture patterns from existing device(s)
Store and reuse patterns
Dramatically improve out-of-box
experience by enabling out-of-band
configuration (not available in UCS)
 Server Components Included
˗
˗
˗
˗
˗
RAID
Adapters and IFM
Boot order and targets
IMM and UEFI
IP address pools (management IPs)
 Chassis Components Included
˗ CMM
˗ IO Modules: Port enablement settings
33
FlexCat integration – For mass bare-metal image deployments
• Powerful - multiple nodes at a time (3 clicks total)
• Multi Platform support (can be imported)
• ESXi 5.1 Virtualization (pre-installed in FSM) – includes Osiris agent
• RHEL Virtualization (RHEV + KVM Platform Agent)
• RHEL basic
• RHEL minimum

Flex System Manager – Network and Storage Virtualization
Network Control:
Networking attributes follow the Virtual Servers as
they live migrate from node to node or chassis to
chassis.
Create “Logical Networks” to define network
VLANs, Access Control, Quality of Service,
Bandwidth and Traffic Priority attributes.
Use FSM to associate Virtual Servers with Logical
Networks. The Flex System will configure and
maintain these network attributes for each virtual
server.
Storage Control:
Embedded Tivoli Storage Productivity Center (TPC)
Dynamic zoning/masking as part of virtual server
relocation
Dynamic storage provisioning as part of image
deployment

Network Management: Predefined Network Groups
 Provides predefined

to quickly find
discovered Network

– All Network
Systems

Network Management: Inventory
 Collects Inventory and properties of switches, converged
network adapters: installed ports, World Wide Names, Subnet
mask, etc.
38
© 2012 IBM Corporation
Network Management: Availability Monitoring
 Switches send SNMP traps to the NGP Manager
– Integrated configuration is provided for switch modules
– SNMP traps are received as native events with defined severity
levels
• The state of the switch reflects the severity of the traps received

Network Control: System Level Network Topology
 System-level is high-level,
showing relationships between
servers and switches, user can:
– Determine to what switch a
specific server is connected
– Determine what other
devices are using the same
switch
– Determine scope and
impact of network outages
IBM
 User can follow a diagnostic
path by traversing the view,
selecting a new root node, and
displaying additional
resources or topology
perspectives
41
© 2012 IBM Corporation
Network Control: Port Level Network Topology
 Port-level shows portto-port connections
between servers and
switches, user can:
– Determine to what
port on the switch a
specific server is
connected
– Determine what
ports, if any, on a
particular switch are
not in use
– Visualize any
devices or ports in a
degraded state
42
© 2012 IBM Corporation
Network Control: Subnet Network Topology
 Subnet shows a systemlevel view of all systems in
the same subnets as the
selected systems, user can:
– Determine to what
subnets a specific
system is connected
– Determine what other
systems are in those
subnets
– Determine what IP
addresses are still in use
for those subnets

 Pooling and virtualization of external
storage
 Integrated with virtual server
management, allowing virtual disks to
be defined and attached
Hypervisor

FSM Adds Storage Visibility to VMware Environment
vCenter Storage Management with UIM
above is a LUN, no indication what
volume name it is, nor what /dev/sdXX
device it is
 FSM shows the customer supplied
volume and storage array names not
machine addresses
above is a storage system, but no
idea what name it is, nor how much
free space it has
FSM View
 FSM maps the connectivity between
virtual server and physical storage
 FSM shows storage consumption by
virtual server regardless of hypervisor

Guided Storage Setup
• Manage System Storage – simplified single-panel UI streamlines tasks of discover, unlock,
and automatically collects inventory
• Simplifies the transition to VMControl

Creating Storage Volumes with FSM
 Adding storage volumes normally
takes someone with deep expertise
˗ Usually requires 3 different software
tools and 70+ clicks
 With FSM, takes 5 clicks and does not
require deep expertise
 Could predefine storage volumes but
then storage is wasted until needed

IBM Flex System Manager – Fabric Management
Server deployment
Server replacement
 LAN and SAN administrators don’t
need to wait for the hardware to
arrive
 Done ahead of time
– MAC and WWNs IP address
assignments
– SAN zoning
 No need to reconfigure LAN/SAN
resources when a Server is replaced
 SAN zoning and LUN masking is unaffected
 Replacement Servers in the same
slots retain MAC and WWN
addresses
– Storage LUN masking
Within single chassis
Server failover
Fully Automated Failover
Network and storage switch independent

A “virtual appliance” image is created
• placed in image repository
• can be deployed multiple times
• Import Open Virtualization Format (OVF) virtual appliance packages
• Create, capture, and manage workloads.
• Create and manage server system pools.
Deploy virtual appliances into server system pools
