Transcript DEEP DIVE EXERCISE www.sdu.nhs.uk www.sdu.nhs.uk 2009

This slide set was developed by the Sustainable Development Unit (SDU)
as part of the four month consultation and engagement exercise (Jan
2013 – May 2013) on the development of the next sustainable
development strategy for the health, public health and social care system
It is a resource for running an exercise to explore an area/s of priority for
the next Sustainable Development Strategy to help develop content for
the full strategy to be published in 2014.
It can be used on its own or in tandem with the other resource available at
www.sdu.nhs.uk/sds which is an exercise to explore seven key questions
with individuals or groups in your organisation to help shape the next
Sustainable Development Strategy to be published in 2014.
For more information or advice on running this exercise please contact
the NHS SDU (www.sdu.nhs.uk).

DEEP DIVE EXERCISE:
“As a group select one area that you believe must be included in the next strategy.
For this area use the template on your table to outline the area chosen, what are
the opportunities for progress in this area by 2020 and the practical actions that
could be included in the strategy to make these things happen”

regardless of engine size or
modal option (e.g. walking,
cycling, car)
2. Removal of car parking subsidies
3. Interest-free loans for cycles,
equipment and season ticket
purchase
Consultation Question FIVE: What areas of sustainable
development need to be prioritised in the next strategy?
Proposal for the next strategy
1. To build on the Carbon Reduction Strategy by focussing on carbon
reduction areas that are likely to have the highest impact.
2. To understand what transformational changes are needed in order to
move towards sustainable models of care.
3. To broaden the focus from carbon reduction to other areas of
sustainable development that are key to a sustainable and low carbon
system, for instance adaptation to climate change and incorporating
social value into plans.
