 Exercise 1: Normal breathing, keeping the head motionless.
 Exercise 2: Deep breathing, slowly but deeply inhaling through nose and exhaling
from mouth.
 Exercise 3: Head movement side to side, looking over each shoulder in one-second
intervals. Ensure the canister does not touch shoulders while performing this exercise.
 Exercise 4: Ensure the canister does not touch chin while performing this exercise.
Head movement up and down, looking at ceiling then floor in one-second intervals.
 Exercise 5: Rotate chin, moving the jaw in a circular pattern with mouth slightly
open.
NOTE
After the fifth exercise, you will hear a series of three beeps. An overall test result will then
be displayed.

For clarity, the operator may elect to explain the next test to the individual just before
the Soldier must accomplish it (i.e., during exercise one explain that exercise
two requires deep breathing (in through the nose and out through the mouth)).
Right-handed Storage
o Ensure lens are facing outward
o Never store a mask wet; air dry
Left-handed Storage

o Remove any dirt.
o Outlet valve body sealing surface
should be smooth; feel for irregularities
with fingernail.
o Mask is unserviceable if damaged.
Outlet Valve Disc
o Remove any foreign objects from disc
(i.e. dirt, sand, or hair).
o Replace disc if damaged.

o Most commonly found inside the facepiece next to the internal drink tube.
o Caused by improper storage in the carrier.
o Mask is unserviceable if cuts or holes exist.
Inspect facepiece for cuts or holes.

If Rubber Is Torn...The Mask Is
Unserviceable!
(NSN: 4240-01-464-7839, part 5-1-2796)
Replace the head harness under the following
conditions:
 When it does not hold the mask
assembly firmly against your face.
 When it is cut, torn, or frayed.
 When it has missing buckles or tabs.
 When it is deteriorated or stretched out.

o Keep drinking system clear- ONLY
DRINK WATER.
o Fitted with M41 PATS.
o Reference the TM every time.
o Make sure you never store food in
your mask carrier.
o Use as a pillow.
o Only perform 10 Level maintenance.

Sit or lay on the mask/carrier.
Remove side voicemitter assembly
unless necessary.
Fold mask.
Store your mask when any of its
parts are wet.
Dent the canister.
DO NOT PREFORM MAINTENANCE
PAST 10 LEVEL.

o Perform maintenance according to
technical manuals.
o Use waterproof bag when required
o Clean according to manuals
o Use your outserts.
o Keep your mask clean.
o Ensure your second skin is attached.
o Replace worn out parts.
