• A series of thorough impedance pre-screening tests
• (Test for line taper / impedance imbalance)
• Above tests performed on both a long and short line in both
forward and backward directions.
Followed by:
• Alpha (loss) / Beta (phase) tests / calculation of effective Er
• Compliant with IPC-TM-650 2.5.5.12

Effective Er – from v14:07also on SET2DIL
The ability to extract the phase along with an
accurate knowledge of the line length allows
you to calculate the effective dielectric constant
at any given frequency. This result shows the
typical characteristic of PCB laminates with a
higher Er at low frequencies – gently sloping to
a much smaller reduction in effective Er as the
frequency rises.

The requirement of the ATLAS insertion loss correlation study was to assess the
correlation between the following single ended and differential test methods and
modelling techniques:

Conclusion:
The charts of combined data show that up to the measured
bandwidth of 20GHz the correlation between VNA, SPP and
SET2DIL is excellent.
