How to translate safeguard REDD+ in the context of Indonesia
1. Land area: app. 187 millions ha population: app. 225 millions; many still
practices customary rights
2. 783 races and sub-races (www.jhosuaproject.net), amounted between 50-70 million (Alliance
of Indigenous Peoples Archipelago, AMAN)
3. Forest transition varied rom the east (Papua: low historical DD) to the west (Sumatra: high
historical DD, Java: forest cover increases)

Adequate instruments exist to provide basis for developing appropriate
Principles, Criteria and Indicators for Safeguards
2. Gaps for integrating existing instruments within a comprehensive framework of
SIS related to:
a) Need for strengthened implementation of existing instruments and systems
to monitor impacts
b) Divergence in capacity/expertise of Provincial/District level framework to
coordinate diverse instruments and their actors at national to project site
scales
c)
Principle uses is learning by doing ,and doing by learning.
3. Stakeholders consultation to improve SIS-REDD + will be conducted at the
national, provincial and district level draft SIS REDD+ is targeted for test at the
end of the year
