• 1. Devam etmeyen, kesin olarak bitmiş bir eylemi anlatmak için kullanılır.
(Simple past , geçmişte belirli bir zamanda başlamış ve bitmiş bir durum veya
aktiviteyi işaret eder.)

• 2. Sık sık yapılan, alışkanlık ya da yaşam biçimi olan eylemleri anlatırken kullanılır.
We went to cinema last year every week. (Biz geçen yıl her hafta sinemaya gittik.)
• 3. Eğer Simple past tense ile kurulmuş bir cümle (When) kalıbını içeriyorsa : when ile
başlayan cümle diğerinden önce olmuştur.
Aşağıdaki ilk örnekte önce yağmur başladı sonra ağacın altında durdum ifadesi anlaşılmalıdır.
