Art. 1
A competition is hereby announced, based on qualifications and interview where necessary, for awarding 3
research grants at the University of Udine, as identified in Attachment A which constitutes an integral part of
the present announcement.
The research grant is linked to the research project and is subject and conditioned upon the relative funding.
The grant may be renewed in compliance with the provisions of art. 22 of Law n. 240 of 30 December 2010
and the “Regulations of the University of Udine for awarding research grants, enacted by the decree of the
Rector n. 263 of 2 July 2014.
The research grant does not entail any right regarding access to tenured positions at the University.
Art. 2
In order to participate in the selection for the research grants hereby announced are required the
qualifications as identified in Attachment A, the lack of which entails automatic exclusion:
A PhD or equivalent degree obtained abroad or, for the sectors involved, a Medical specialization
accompanied by an adequate scientific production or equivalent title obtained abroad, constitute a
preferential qualification for access to the selections as above.
Candidates with a qualification obtained abroad which has not been declared equivalent pursuant to current
legislation will have to present their qualifications translated and legalized by the competent Italian
representatives in their Countries of birth or residence, or by an official translator. The adjudicating
commission (see art. 6) shall evaluate the equivalence of the qualification obtained abroad solely for the
purposes of admission to the competition, except for the evaluation of a medical specialization to which art.
38 of the Legislative Decree 165/2001 and subsequent modifications and additions, and EU regulations on
the matter, shall apply.
Art. 3
The research grants pursuant to the present competition cannot be awarded to:
a) employees of Universities and persons pursuant to art. 22 clause 1 of Law n. 240 of 30 December 2010;
b) those who have already been awarded research grants pursuant to Law n. 240 of 30 December 2010 for
for the maximum period provided by law, even if not continuously, except for the period in which the grant
was awarded at the same time as a PhD Grant, within the maximum limit of the legal duration of the relative
course;
c) those who have already been awarded research grants and fixed-term contracts as researchers pursuant
respectively to articles 22 and 24 of Law n. 240 of 30 December 2010 for a total of twelve years, even if not
continuously,
d) those who are related, up to and including the fourth degree, to:
- the Rector, the Administrative Director or a member of the Board of Governors of the University of Udine;
- the scientific director or a professor/researcher belonging to the Department or structure where the
relative research activity will be carried out.
The research grants pursuant to this competition cannot be combined with:
a) scholarships of any type awarded, except those given by Italian or foreign institutions in order to
integrate, with periods abroad, the training or research of the scholar awarded the scholarship;
b) other research grants;
c) any work contracts as an employee, even part-time, except for the provisions established for the
employees of public administrations.
Research grants pursuant to the present competition are also incompatible with simultaneous attendance at
University degree courses, either Bachelors, specialistic or Masters, research Doctorates with scholarships
and medical specializations, in Italy and abroad.
Art. 4
Applications to participate in the selection, filled in on ordinary paper as set out in the form attached to this
competition (Attachment B) and accompanied by the necessary documentation, must be addressed to the
Rector of the University of Udine – Servizi Affari Istituzionali e Legali – Ufficio Protocollo – Via Palladio 8 –
33100 Udine, and must arrive by and no later than 11:30am of 17 March 2017. Late applications
will not be accepted.
The application must be made as follows:
1. handed in personally at the Servizi Affari Istituzionali e Legali - – Ufficio Protocollo of the University, Via
Palladio 8, Udine, Monday to Friday from 9 am to 11:30am.
2. sent by registered delivery with notification of receipt;
3. sent by Certified Mail (PEC) to the address [email protected] within the same period.
The candidate who forwards the application through PEC does not have to provide the paper application.
The application and attachments must be formatted to ensure the non-alterability of the document during
the access and storage (PDF / Adobe and Adobe PDF).
The maximum allowed is 20 MB.
Application submitted by a non-certified e-mail address or not in accordance to the provisions by this
paragraph will not be considered valid.
The university administration does not assume any responsibility in case the files transmitted by PEC are not
legible.
With reference to the admission applications sent by mail, shall be deemed received in time if sent by the
expiry date of the notice, as attested in the office date stamp accepting post, provided that such documents
arrive at Servizi Affari Istituzionali e Legali - Ufficio Protocollo of the University within 23 March 2017
under penalty of exclusion.
The name, surname and address of the candidate, and the competition the applicant is applying for, must be
written on the outside of the envelope.
In the application, pursuant to the Presidential Decree 445/2000 "Unified Text of legislative and
regulamentory dispositions concerning administrative documentation", the candidate must specify, clearly
and accurately and under his/her own responsibility:
1. his/her particulars, date and place of birth, nationality, residence and address chosen for the purposes of
the competition (including the post code and, if possible, telephone number and email address);
2. the research grant for which he/she is competing;
3. that he/she meets all the requirements pursuant to art. 2 of this announcement;
4. that he/she is aware of all the restrictions and that his/her application is not incompatible pursuant to art.
3 of this announcement;
5. that he/she undertakes to communicate promptly any change of residence or address indicated in the
application.
With the application the candidate must also attach, with reference to the research grant for which he/she
intends to compete:
a) scientific and professional CV, dated and signed, showing the candidate's suitability to follow and achieve
the research program (Attachments A and following);
b) any publications, certificates and any other diplomas deemed useful to prove the candidate's qualification
with regard to the research program as above. Academic and professional qualifications may be self-certified
in substitution of the normal certifications (Attachment C). Other qualifications, including publications, may
be presented as originals or reproduced as photocopies with a declaration pursuant to Presidential Decree
445/2000 of 28 December 2000 – Attachment D);
c) list, on a separate sheet of paper, of the publications and qualifications presented with the application
(attachment D), dated and signed;
d) documentation certifying any research carried out at public and/or private bodies, duly indicating the start
and duration thereof;
e) copy of any academic qualification obtained abroad, accompanied by the certificate of examinations taken
with the mark obtained, translated and legalized by the competent Italian diplomatic representatives abroad,
or by an official translator, if an assessment of equivalence is required;
f) photocopy of identification card or other identity document.
Pursuant to art. 15 of Law No 12 November 2011 -183 on "Measures for the formation of the annual budget
and multi-state" Public Administrations can not accept or request certificates. In relations with the organs of
Public Administration and Managers of public services, the certificates are entirely replaced by the
declarations pursuant to Presidential Decree 445/2000 of 28 December 2000.
The administration reserves the right to carry out sample checks on the truthfulness of the substitute
declarations. If in the course of such checks it were to emerge that the content of the declaration is false,
the applicant shall forfeit any benefits deriving from the false declaration, and shall also be subject to the
penal consequences of his/her action of making false declarations.
Applicants who intend to compete for several research grants , must submit an application for each one.
Any application that does not contain the declarations indicated above, and that does not have the
prescribed documentation attached, will not be taken into consideration.
Reference may not be made to documents and publications already presented in other competitions.
The administration takes no responsibility for the loss of any communications resulting from an inaccurate
indication of the residence and address of the applicant, nor from non-communication or tardy
communication of any change thereto, nor from any possible mail delivery or postal error not due to any
fault of the Administration.
Art. 5
The selection tests will ascertain the candidates' preparation, experience and aptitude for research. They will
consist in:
- evaluation of the professional and scientific CV, publications and qualifications presented;
- interview, if necessary, with a more detailed discussion of the topics of scientific importance for the
relative research grant.
The interview will take place according to the calendar indicated in Attachment A of the present
announcement, of which it is an integral part. There will not be any direct communication to the candidates.
Candidates will be informed, at the address indicated on the application, if they have been excluded because
they lack the requirements for admissibility or due to non-observance of the deadlines.
Candidates must come to the interview, if required, with a valid identity document.
Art. 6
The adjudicating Commissions for the competition are identified in Attachment A of the present
announcement, of which it is an integral part.
In the first sitting, the Commission shall appoint a Chair and secretary, and shall establish the criteria and
methods for evaluating the qualifications and interview, where required.
The results of the evaluation of the qualifications shall be made known to the candidates in the course of the
interview, where required.
The Commission shall have a total of 100 points that can be attributed to qualifications and to the interview,
where required.
At the end of the Commission's work, the Commission shall draw up a general list of merit based on the
points awarded to each candidate, and shall write the minutes of the operations of the whole competition.
The grants shall be awarded, in observance of the above list, to the candidates who have obtained the
minimum overall mark (based on qualifications or qualifications and interview) of 70/100 (seventy out of one
hundred).
The Commission’s final judgement is non-appealable.

No communications will be sent to the candidate's domicile.
Any candidates who do not declare that they accept the research grant, and do not present themselves at
the research center within the deadlines communicated, even informally, shall forfeit the right to the grant.
Extensions to the deadline shall be granted solely due to cases of force majeure, duly documented.
Art. 7
The research activity shall not be begun before the successful candidate has signed the contract defining the
type of collaboration.
The research activity for which the grant is awarded must have the following characteristics:
a) it must take place within the field of the research program for which the grant is awarded, and not be a
merely technical support thereof;
b) it must have a close connection with the research program for which the winner of the grant has been
awarded the contract;
c) it must be continuous in nature and temporally defined, not merely occasional, and must be coordinated
with the overall activity of the University;
d) it must be carried out autonomously, within the sole limits of the program set out by the Director of the
program, without a predetermined work schedule.
The researcher is obliged to present, according to the deadlines laid down by the contract, to the structure
where he/she is working, a detailed written report of the activity carried out, accompanied by the relative
opinion of the scientific Director.
The researcher must also present intermediate reports and timesheets, if required by the structure.
Each two parts may recede from the contract.
The structure may recede from the contract, not only for the hypotheses of Art. 9, second and third
paragraph, of the “Regulations of the University of Udine for awarding research grants, enacted by the
decree of the Rector n. 263 of 2 July 2014, but also if the research project fails and therefore its financing.
Art. 8
The following legal dispositions apply to the grants awarded in the present competition:
- with regard to fiscal matters, the dispositions pursuant to art. 4 of Law n. 476 of 13 August 1984 and
subsequent modifications and additions;
- with regard to social security matters, the dispositions pursuant to art. 2 clauses 26 et seq. of Law n. 335
of 8 August 1995 and subsequent modifications and additions;
- with regard to maternity leave, the dispositions pursuant to the Ministerial Decree of 12 July 2007;
- with regard to sick leave, the dispositions pursuant to art. 1 clause 788 of Law n. 296 of 27 December
2006 and subsequent modifications.
During the period of obligatory maternity leave, the indemnity paid by the Italian Social Security Institute
(INPS) pursuant to art. 5 of Ministerial Decree of 12 July 2007 shall be integrated by the University so that
the whole amount of the research grant shall be paid.
The grant shall be paid in monthly instalments.
Art. 9
The documents and publications presented by the candidates for the purposes of the competition shall be
returned by hand to the candidate him/herself, or to a person delegated for the purpose by the candidate,
180 days after the publication of the Decree of the Rector approving the documents, and within the
following 30 days of said publication.
Publications presented in the original and not collected shall be kept at the Interdepartmental Libraries in
order to increase the store of books held by the University.
All other documentation shall be eliminated according to the dispositions of the law.
Art. 10
Pursuant to art. 13 of Legislative Decree 196/2003 "Personal data protection Code", the information sheet
concerning the processing of personal data is attached to the present announcement (Attachment E).
Art. 11
For all other matters not expressly cited in the present announcement, reference should be made to the
current legislation cited above and to the "Internal Regulations for awarding research grants" of the
University of Udine, enacted by the decree of the Rector n. 263 of 2 July 2014.

3. Obiettivi previsti e risultati attesi del programma di ricerca in cui si colloca l’attività dell’assegnista di
ricerca / Foreseen objectives and results of the research programme performed by the research fellow
“assegnista di ricerca”:
3.1 Testo in italiano (min 3000 caratteri / characters):
La preoccupazione per quanto riguarda le emissioni provenienti da veicoli diesel sta aumentando
prepotentemente, alla luce delle normative ambientali più severe che entreranno in vigore nel prossimo futuro. In
particolare, il problema principale riguarda la produzione di NOx e particolato, e la comunità scientifica si sta
adoperando sempre più in questo senso nel tentativo di trovare catalizzatori e processi più efficienti e resistenti
per il loro abbattimento. Tra vari materiali proposti, le combinazioni a base di CeO 2 e ossidi misti CeZrO2 offrono
notoriamente molti vantaggi: da un lato sono in grado di promuovere l’ossidazione del soot grazie alla mobilità di
ossigeno, e dall’altro possono adsorbire gli NOx che vengono poi ridotti durante impulsi riducenti, costituendo in
questo modo un sistema combinato per la rimozione simultanea di particolato ed NOx. Al momento questa
tecnologia combinata risulta essere molto interessante, essendo molto più semplice dell’approccio tradizionale nel
quale coesistono due sistemi separati: il filtro antiparticolato per l’abbattimento del soot (DPF) e il sistema deNOx
per la riduzione degli NOx (quale ad esempio la riduzione catalitica selettiva, SCR, o l’accumulo e riduzione degli
NOx, NSR). L’attuale tecnologia combinata di rimozione di NOx e particolato (DPNR, Diesel Particulate NOx
Reduction) si basa su combinazioni di metalli nobili (di solito Pt) e alcalini (come il Ba) supportati su un ossido
(Al2O3). Ai fini dello sviluppo di tecnologie più vantaggiose dal punto di vista economico sarebbe opportuno evitare
l’uso di metalli preziosi, possibilmente aumentando le performances catalitiche e la resistenza dei materiali. Nella
fase di ricerca un’attenzione particolare dovrebbe essere dedicata anche alle caratteristiche chimico-fisiche dei
materiali per renderli idonei alla produzione su scala industriale.
All’interno di questa cornice, l’assegnista dovrà studiare il comportamento di rivestimenti catalitici a base di ceria e
ceria-zirconia, analizzando in particolare combinazioni a base di rame come suggerito negli esempi di letteratura
più recenti. Nel nostro laboratorio lo studio di catalizzatori metallo-ossido di cerio per la combustione del metano
ha rivelato che progettando opportunamente il catalizzatore si può ottenere una sinergia molto forte tra i due
componenti. Per esempio la preparazione di campioni mediante sintesi per combustione in soluzione (SCS) porta
alla formazione di un catalizzatore molto attivo e resistente con interessanti proprietà redox e catalitiche. Alcune
formulazioni a base di rame-ossido di cerio preparate per SCS hanno già dato ottimi risultati per l’ossidazione
preferenziale di CO in correnti ricche di idrogeno. Questi materiali potrebbero essere testati come punto di
partenza per l’ossidazione del soot, al fine di verificare (i) come la miglior interazione metallo-ceria influenza il
processo, e (ii) l’effetto sulla combustione del particolato della superficie ricca di difetti ottenuta con questa sintesi.
In letteratura è riportato anche che metodi di preparazione diversi, così come precursori di cerio (e/o zirconio)
diversi, possono influenzare il numero e la qualità dei difetti strutturali dell’ossido di cerio. Inoltre, la tecnica di
sintesi assume un’importanza particolarmente rilevante quando i materiali devono essere utilizzati per rivestire i
subtrati monolitici come avviene abitualmente per le applicazioni di trattamento dei gas esausti. L’assegnista dovrà
quindi implementare metodologie di sintesi alternative come metodi a secco, coprecipitazione modificata e sintesi
idrotermica con lo scopo di (i) ottenere catalizzatori con diverse proprietà redox e di struttura che possono
influenzare la loro attività, come per esempio materiali nanostrutturati, e (ii) fornire ai catalizzatori caratteristiche
adatte alla loro implementazione nei rivestimenti. Tutti i nuovi materiali sintetizzati saranno testati sotto forma di
polveri come supporto per il rame inizialmente per l’ossidazione del soot e successivamente anche per
l’abbattimento degli NOx. Sarà effettuato uno screening di diversi precursori metallici per verificare se questo può
migliorare la performance di questi catalizzatori. Quando si saranno individuate le combinazioni migliori, lo studio
verrà esteso ad altre formulazioni contenenti ossido di cerio, in particolare ceria-zirconia che ha mostrato risultati
interessanti, e all’aggiunta di idonei promotori (altre terre rare, metalli alcalini ecc.).
Tutti i materiali saranno caratterizzati a fondo mediante misure di area superficiale e porosimetria, analisi ai raggi
X, esperimenti di riduzione e ossidazione in temperatura programmata e microscopia elettronica. La
caratterizzazione fornirà informazioni importanti sulle proprietà redox, strutturali e acido-base delle nuove
formulazioni catalitiche. In particolare, la spettroscopia FTIR sarà utilizzata per determinare il meccanismo di
interazione del particolato e degli NOx con i catalizzatori a base di rame, e misure FESEM e HRTEM saranno
utilizzate per verificare la morfologia dei rivestimenti ottenuti dai catalizzatori in polvere selezionati.
Al termine del periodo di ricerca ci si aspetta di ottenere (i) conoscenze più profonde dei meccanismi di
ossidazione del particolato su sistemi a base di rame; (ii) migliori formulazioni catalitiche con maggiore attività per
l’ossidazione del soot e maggior capacità di stoccaggio di NOx; (iii) informazioni sull’effetto di promotori e/o altri
metalli sull’attività dei materiali a base di rame.

There is an always increasing concern regarding the emissions originating from diesel fuelled vehicles, also in light
of the more stringent regulations that will come into force in the near future. In particular, soot and NOx emissions
are regarded as the main problem and have attracted several efforts in the scientific community, trying to find more
efficient and durable catalysts and processes for their elimination. Among different materials, CeO 2 and CeZrO2
combinations are known to offer many advantages: on one side, they can promote soot oxidation due to their
oxygen mobility, and on the other they can adsorb NOx that can subsequently be reduced during rich pulses,
constituting a combined system for the simultaneous removal of soot and NOx. Nowadays this coupled technology
is regarded as very interesting, being much simpler than the traditional approach involving two separate systems:
the diesel particulate filter for soot abatement (DPF) and the deNOx system for NOx reduction (such as selective
catalytic reduction, SCR, or NOx storage and reduction, NSR). The actual coupled soot and NOx removal
technology (DPNR, Diesel Particulate NOx Reduction) is based on combinations of precious metals (usually Pt)
and alkaline metals (such as Ba) supported on an oxide carrier (Al 2O3). For the development of more cost efficient
technologies it would be desirable to avoid the use of precious metals, possibly with an increase of the catalytic
performances and durability of the materials. During the research step special attention should be paid also to the
physic-chemical characteristics of the materials, in order to make them suitable for the scale up at industrial level.
Within this framework the research fellow will be asked to investigate the behaviour of different ceria and ceriazirconia based catalytic coatings, investigating in particular copper-based combinations as suggested in the latest
literature examples. On the basis of the experience developed in our lab, the study of metal-ceria catalysts for
methane combustion revealed that a strong synergy can be obtained between the two components by opportune
catalyst design. For example, the preparation of samples by solution combustion synthesis (SCS) leads to the
formation of a very active and robust catalyst with interesting catalytic and redox properties. Copper-ceria
formulations prepared by SCS gave already good results for the preferential oxidation of CO in hydrogen rich
streams. These materials might be tested as a starting point for soot oxidation, in order to check (i) how the
enhanced metal-ceria interaction affects the process, and (ii) the effect of the highly defective surface obtained
with this synthesis on soot combustion. In the literature, there are also indications that different preparation
methods and cerium (and/or zirconium) precursors can influence the amount and quality of defects on ceria
structure. Moreover, the synthesis technique is particularly relevant when the materials have to be used for the
coating of monolithic substrates, as it usually happens for exhaust aftertreatment applications. The research fellow
will be required thus to implement alternative synthesis routes such as dry methods, modified coprecipitation and
hydrothermal synthesis with the aim (i) to obtain catalysts with different structural and redox properties that can
affect their activity, as for example nanoshaped materials, and (ii) to provide the catalysts with suitable
characteristics to allow their implementation in coating formulations. All the newly synthesized compounds will be
tested in powder form as copper supports primarily for soot oxidation and, in the following, also for NOx removal.
An investigation of different metal precursors will be carried out, to check whether this can improve the
performance of these catalysts. Once the most promising combinations will be established, the studies will be
extended to other ceria-containing formulations, in particular ceria-zirconia that has been shown to give interesting
results, and to the addition of suitable promoters (other rare earth oxides, alkaline metals etc).
All the materials will be characterized in depth by means of surface area and porosimetry measurements, x-ray
diffraction analysis, temperature programmed reduction and oxidation experiments and electron microscopy. The
characterization will give important information on structural, redox and acid-base properties of the new catalyst
formulations. In particular, FTIR spectroscopy will be used to determine the mechanism of soot and NOx
interaction with copper-based catalysts, and FESEM and HRTEM will be used to assess the morphology of the
coatings obtained from selected powder catalysts.
At the end of the research period it is expected to obtain (i) deeper insights into the mechanisms of soot oxidation
on copper-based systems; (ii) improved formulations with increased soot oxidation activity and NOx storage
capacity; (iii) some information on the effect of promoters and/or different metals on the activity of copper-based
materials.

Premessa
L’equilibrio dinamico di un litorale e la sua evoluzione morfologica sono il frutto dell’alternanza di
processi erosivi e deposizionali che concorrono a modellarne profili e forme. A loro volta essi sono
strettamente connessi sia alla rete fluviale retrostante, che alimenta le spiagge con l’apporto di
sedimenti, contrastando così l’azione erosiva delle mareggiate, sia alla presenza di opere idrauliche.
In prossimità della foce di un fiume, un peso notevole su questo bilancio è indubbiamente legato
all’apporto solido della corrente, ma non solo: le morfologie deltizie, infatti, sono tra le più varie forme
di deposito costiero e nascono dalla complessa interazione tra la dinamica fluviale e quella marittima.
Questa interazione induce dei cambiamenti reciproci sul campo di moto sia della corrente che del
moto ondoso, con effetto diretto sulla capacità di presa in carico, trasporto e rilascio dei sedimenti.
Anche l’ambiente lagunare è per sua natura estremamente articolato: i canali principali che partono
dalle bocche con profondità rilevanti, si ramificano in una fitta rete di canali con profondità e dimensioni
progressivamente minori, attraverso i quali il flusso mareale viene convogliato fra le barene e all’interno
delle estese piane tidali. L’evoluzione morfologica di un ambiente così eterogeneo è condizionato
dall’equilibrio dinamico tra l’apporto e il prelievo dei sedimenti solidi.
In un contesto generale essi possono provenire dai fiumi che sfociano direttamente in laguna e dal
mare attraverso le correnti di marea, responsabili a loro volta unitamente al moto ondoso generato in
laguna, dei principali processi erosivi che si evidenziano al suo interno.
Il materiale così asportato dalle barene e dalle piane tidali, viene reindirizzato dalle correnti di
marea lungo i canali, dove tende nuovamente a depositare nel momento in cui, per effetto
dell’alternanza dei flussi e riflussi, il campo di moto si inverte e le velocità della corrente non sono tali
da mantenerlo in carico.
L’accentuato dinamismo che caratterizza gli ambienti costieri e di transizione, in cui si collocano le
foci dei fiumi, le bocche e i canali lagunari, rappresenta un’importante evidenza morfologica della
complessa interazione tra la corrente fluviale e il moto ondoso incidente sottocosta e, da un punto di
vista ingegneristico, comporta anche numerose problematiche da affrontare.
I fenomeni di erosione o deposito dei sedimenti possono avere infatti pesanti ricadute sulle
molteplici attività economiche che ruotano attorno all’ambiente costiero, deltizio o lagunare; tali
ripercussioni richiedono il progetto e la realizzazione di adeguate opere di protezione costiera e
portuale, il mantenimento ordinario della navigabilità delle vie di accesso ai porti e dei canali e la
previsione delle modalità di conferimento e stoccaggio dei materiali di dragaggio.
L’interazione tra il moto ondoso e le correnti, il complesso effetto di tale interazione sul campo di
moto e sulla distribuzione delle tensioni al fondo, responsabili della presa in carico e movimentazione
dei sedimenti, è stato oggetto di numerosi studi e ricerche in ambito costiero e con diverse applicazioni
su territorio nazionale e internazionale. Allo stesso tempo, la complessità del fenomeno è tale da
richiedere inevitabilmente una modellazione numerica dedicata, in grado di rappresentare al meglio
questa mutua interazione, passaggio fondamentale per una corretta progettazione e pianificazione di
interventi sul territorio.
Le onde di gravità che si sovrappongono ad una corrente subiscono delle modifiche sia in termini di
periodo che di altezza d’onda caratteristici, che si traducono in forzanti idrodinamiche aggiuntive legate
ai gradienti di radiation stress, tali a loro volta da influire sul campo di moto. Una modalità possibile e
ampiamente utilizzata per risolvere numericamente l’interazione mutua che si origina tra moto ondoso e
corrente, in ambito costiero, consiste nell’implementazione delle equazioni 2D di De Saint Venant in
acque basse, per la parte idrodinamica e del principio di conservazione della “wave action”, per la
generazione e propagazione del moto ondoso.
Attraverso il principio di conservazione della “wave action” si può inoltre tener conto delle
cosiddette interazioni di risonanza tra strato limite indotto dal vento e moto ondoso e delle interazioni
non lineari fra le componenti spettrali che lo caratterizzano, fattori importanti nel processo di
generazione e propagazione. Tali diverse modalità di interazione hanno, ciascuna, un peso specifico
significativo sui meccanismi attraverso cui il moto ondoso viene generato e si propaga e per una
corretta riproduzione dello stesso è fondamentale gestirle opportunamente per non incorrere in errori
grossolani.
Moto ondoso e corrente interagiscono anche attraverso le tensioni tangenziali che si sviluppano al
fondo, che influiscono sul campo di moto e sono responsabili del trasporto solido di sedimenti.
Quest’ultimo si compone in generale di due parti: un trasporto al fondo ed uno in sospensione. Il primo
avviene per effetto della tensione media dovuta alla corrente. Il trasporto in sospensione invece è
determinato da due fasi: un meccanismo che preleva sedimento dal fondo e lo porta in sospensione ed
uno che lo trascina. In assenza di moto ondoso, entrambe le fasi sono imputabili alla sola corrente; la
presenza di moto ondoso, sia sottocosta che nelle piane tidali, diventa la causa principale della
risospensione dei sedimenti in ragione delle forti tensioni oscillanti associate al movimento del pelo
libero.
In ambito lagunare il problema viene ulteriormente complicato dalla simultanea presenza di
materiale incoerente e coesivo, i quali si contraddistinguono per un comportamento morfodinamico
profondamente diverso.
A partire dagli anni '60, sono stati effettuati numerosi studi per la comprensione e la formulazione
di teorie di trasporto solido in presenza di corrente e moto ondoso; la scelta dell’una o dell’altra teoria
richiede un’analisi critica della bontà dei risultati forniti da una loro mirata applicazione sul particolare
ambito di studio.
Obiettivi e sviluppo del programma di ricerca
In relazione alla necessità di individuare il ruolo dei principali fattori idrodinamici che intervengono
nell’evoluzione morfologica degli ambienti costieri e di transizione e dell’impatto che le opere idrauliche
hanno su di essa, si propone un programma di ricerca che si prefigge di:
 analizzare, avvalendosi di modellazione numerica, l’interazione idraulica tra le correnti di foce o di
marea e il moto ondoso generato al largo o all’interno dell’ambiente lagunare;
 individuare il modello di trasporto solido di sedimenti coesivi e incoerenti più adatto a interpretare i
processi morfodinamici;
 indagare l’effetto della presenza di opere idrauliche su tali processi morfodinamici al fine di
individuare una metodologia utile alla corretta progettazione e pianificazione di interventi sul
territorio;
Sulla base delle considerazioni precedenti, si richiede di applicare il modello a una o più situazioni reali,
opportunamente scelte e in presenza di opere di protezione, al fine di valutare l’evoluzione morfologica
su diverse scale temporali e l’impatto che l’intervento ha avuto sull’attuale assetto morfodinamico.
L’applicazione deve comprendere:
1. un’indagine storica degli interventi fatti nel passato nell’area oggetto di studio;
2. la definizione di un’opportuna combinazione di correnti e moto ondoso, di rilevanza statistica;
3. simulazioni idrodinamiche e di trasporto solido;
4. analisi dei risultati.

Introduction
Erosion and deposition of sediments are two fundamental aspects that affect the dynamic balance
of a littoral, related both to natural and human causes that contribute to the sediment dispersal and
accumulation patterns. In particular, a river mouth is the result of the interaction between river flow
dynamics, tides and wind wave-induced processes.
Delta morphologies are among the most varied coastal accumulation forms and originate from
these complex interaction phenomena. Effluents from river mouths spread, decelerate and deposit their
sediment load. These processes, acting in combination with maritime dynamics, determine different
hydrodynamic and morphological behaviors.
A lagoon is also characterized and regulated by a complex balance of processes having both natural
and human origins. The dynamism of this balance is established by particular morphology of the lagoon
itself: the main deep channels that depart from tidal inlets, branch into a dense network of channels
with progressively shallower depth; through this network the flow is conveyed between the salt
marshes and within the wide tidal flats. The morphological evolution of this complex environment is
conditioned by the balance between the supply and the removal of sediments.
In a general context, sediment transport comes from the rivers that flow directly into the lagoon
and from the sea, carried by tidal currents. Moreover, currents, along with the bottom shear stress
induced by wind waves, are the main causes of the erosion processes pointed out inside the lagoon.
Important effects of this complex interaction lead to manage problems of civil engineer, in detail coastal
protection interventions, to ensure navigability of channels and harbors, to solve sediment transport
problems due to the mouth bar and maintenance of waterways.
The interaction between wind waves and currents and its complex effect on the distribution of
bottom shear stress and sediment transport, has been the subject of numerous studies and research in
coastal engineering.
At the same time, the complexity of the phenomenon necessarily requires a dedicated numerical
modeling, able to represent this mutual interaction in a proper way.
To better understand the sediment transport mechanisms, a correct evaluation of bottom shear
stress is required. Gravity sea waves superimposed to a current, modify their period and amplitude;
these changes result in additional hydrodynamic forcing, related to the gradients of radiation stress,
that in turn influence the flow field. A widely used method to solve numerically the mutual interaction
between waves and current, in coastal areas, is the implementation of 2D De Saint Venant shallow
water equations for the current and the transport equation for wave action density, for the generation
and propagation of gravity waves.
Through the conservation of the wave action density it is also possible to take into account the socalled wave-wave resonance interactions between waves and the boundary layer induced by wind and
non-linear interactions between different spectral components. These processes are fundamental in the
mechanism of generation and propagation of wind waves in coastal areas and it is very important to
ensure their correct representation in order to avoid blunders.
Waves and current interact also by bottom shear stresses, responsible of resuspension of sediment
and consequently of its transport. Sediment transport generally consists of two parts: a bed-load
transport and sediment suspension.
The first one takes place by effect of the mean bed shear stress due to the current. The sediment
suspension is characterized by two phases: the first mechanism picks up sediment from the bottom and
brings it in suspension and the second one drags it. In absence of wind waves, both phases are
attributable only to the current; the presence of wave motion, in particular in the surf zone or within
salt marshes and tidal flats, becomes the main cause of resuspension of sediments because of the
bottom shear stress associated with the oscillating motion of the free surface.
In the lagoon environment the problem is further complicated by the simultaneous presence of
incoherent sediment and cohesive material, which are characterized by a very different morphodynamic
behavior.
Since the '60s, several studies have been conducted for understanding and formulating theories of
sediment transport in the simultaneous presence of current and waves.
The choice of one of these theories requires a critical analysis of the goodness of the results
provided by a focused application on their particular field of study.
Aims and development of the research program
A research program is proposed to identify the role of the main hydrodynamic factors involved in
the morphological evolution of transitional and coastal environments and to evaluate the impact of
hydraulic works on them. The research program aims to:
 analyze, with numerical modeling, hydraulic interaction between currents and wind waves, which are
generated offshore or in the lagoon;
 identify the sediment transport model for incoherent and cohesive sediments suitable to interpret
the morphodynamic processes;
 establish and reproduce the impact of hydraulic works on these morphodynamic processes with the
aim to define a methodology to on an appropriate planning of interventions.
Based on the aims described above, the research requests to apply numerical model to real
contests and in presence of protection interventions, suitably selected, in order to assess the
morphological evolution on different time scales and the impact of the hydraulic works.
Modeling requires:
 a brief historical and hydraulic background;
 to define a combination of waves and currents, with statistical significance, determined on the basis
of data of tides and waves;
 hydrodynamic and morphodynamic simulations;
 synthesis framework and considerations.

Il presente assegno rientra nell’attività prevista da un progetto di collaborazione di ricerca biennale tra DI4A ed
ERSA iniziato nel 2017 che ha l’obiettivo di definire tecnica colturale, mettere a punto processi per ottenere i
prodotti di prima trasformazione dal seme (olio e farine), infiorescenze (bio-metaboliti) e paglie (fibra e canapulo)
della canapa industriale (Cannabis sativa L.) e valutare la sostenibilità ambientale ed economica della intera filiera
canapa a livello regionale. L’obiettivo specifico del presente assegno riguarda in particolare la valorizzazione dei
prodotti ottenibili dagli organi vegetativi della canapa, in particolare le infiorescenze, ricche di metaboliti bioattivi,
essenzialmente terpenoidi e fenilpropanoidi, costituenti principali di prodotti naturali come gli oli essenziali e le
acque aromatiche, che oggi trovano largo impiego nel campo farmaceutico, agronomico, alimentare, sanitario,
cosmetico e nell’industria dei profumi. Altri composti naturali presenti sempre nelle infiorescenze della canapa
appartengono alla famiglia dei cannabinoidi, come il cannabidiolo (CBD), cannabigerolo (CBG) e cannabicromene
(CBC) che, non avendo effetto psicotropo, come invece il tetraidrocannabinolo (Δ9-THC), oggi trovano un
ampissimo impiego in campo terapeutico e farmaceutico contro disturbi d'ansia, obesità, epilessia, distonia,
diabete, neurodermatiti e come antibatterico per prevenire infezioni ed infiammazione. Il risultato principale atteso
dalla presente attività è l’ottimizzazione e la standardizzazione di un processo teso all’ottenimento di oli essenziali,
acque aromatiche e cannabinoidi non psicotropi da infiorescenze di varietà di Cannabis sativa L. coltivate in
Regione. Per cui le principali attività, funzionali per ottenere tale risultato, saranno:
a) individuare la componente genetica, i principali effetti ambientali e di tecnica agronomica che influenzano la
produzione quantitativa e qualitative di tali bio-metaboliti nei tricomi delle ghiandole epidermiche specializzate
distribuite in particolare sulle brattee del perigonio del fiore femminile, mediante la coltivazione di varietà di
canapa, iscritte al Registro Varietale Europeo, in vari areali della regione Friuli Venezia Giulia;
b) standardizzare l’estrazione, rendimento e determinazione di tali composti dal materiale vegetale a scala di
laboratorio. Per l’estrazione da materiale vegetale fresco o congelato, sarà effettuata una distillazione in corrente
di vapore mediante distillatore tipo “Clevenger”, ottenendo parametri poi trasferibili a livello aziendale:
c) analisi in gascromatografia-spettrometria di massa (GC-MS) per la caratterizzazione e identificazione dei
composti volatili complessi presenti nell’estratto e analisi con cromatografia liquida (HPLC) quando occorre
analizzare frazioni non volatili e per ottenere le frazioni purificate (HPLC preparativa).

This research grant is in the framework of the planned activity of a two-year research project between DI4A and
ERSA. The main aim of the project is to define cropping technique, develop processes to get first-stage processing
products from seed (oil and flour), inflorescences (bio-metabolites) and straws (fibre and shives) of industrial hemp
varieties (Cannabis sativa L.) and evaluate the environmental and economic sustainability of the entire chain
hemp. The specific objective of this research grant concerns, in particular, the obtaining and exploitation of
products obtainable from inflorescences of hemp, rich in bioactive metabolites, essentially terpenoids and
phenylpropanoids, main constituents of natural products such as essential oils and aromatic waters, which today
are widely used in pharmaceutical, cosmetic, food, health, agriculture and perfume industry. Other natural
compounds are present in hemp inflorescences belong to the family of cannabinoids, such as cannabidiol (CBD),
cannabigerolo (CBG) and cannabichromene type (CBC), which no having psychotropic effect unlike
tetrahydrocannabinol (Δ9-THC), today have a wide therapeutic and pharmaceutical use. Numerous scientific
studies proves therapeutic potential in a large number of disease and symptoms as anxiety disorders, obesity,
epilepsy, dystonia, diabetes, neurodermatities and as antibacterial to prevent infection and control inflammation.
The main result expected from this activity is the optimization and standardization of a process aimed to obtaining
essential oils, aromatic waters and non-psychotropic cannabinoids from inflorescences of varieties of Cannabis
sativa L. cultivated in the region. Whereby the main activities, functional to achieve the above result, will be:
a)
Define genetic component, main environmental effects and agronomic techniques affecting the quantitative
and qualitative production of such bio-metabolites in epidermal gland trichomes especially on female flower bracts
perigonium, through cultivation of hemp varieties in various areas of Friuli Venezia Giulia;
b)
Determine and standardize the extraction efficiency of these compounds from plant material at the
laboratory scale. The extraction from plant material, fresh or frozen, will be made a distillation in vapour stream
using Distiller type "Clevenger", obtaining parameters then transferred at the enterprise level;
c)
Analyse by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) for the characterization and identification of
volatiles complexes present in the extract and, in presence of non-volatile fractions and with the aim to obtain
purified fractions, by liquid chromatography (HPLC).

Dear Sir/Madam,
We wish to inform you that Legislative Decree n. 196 of 30 June 2003 (“Personal data protection code”)
protects persons and other subjects with regard to personal data processing.
According to the Decree, processing must take place according to the principles of correctness, legality and
transparency, and your confidentiality and rights must be respected.
Pursuant to article 13 of the Decree, we wish to inform you as follows:
1. The data you provide will be processed for the proceedings that concern you within the framework of the
competition procedures for the award of the research grants. Pursuant to art. 18 clause 4 of the Decree, we
also inform you that for processing the data you provide, your consent is not required.
2. The data will be processed as follows: collection, registration, organization, preservation, consultation,
processing, selection, extraction, comparison, use, interconnection, blocking, communication, propagation,
cancellation and destruction. The data is also processed using electronic processing means and for the
purposes of the competition procedures and only for the institutional purposes of the central and peripheral
organization of the University of Udine, under the direct control of the same.
3. All candidates are obliged to provide their data for the purposes of assessing the participation
requirements; otherwise, the candidate is excluded.
4. The data may be communicated or given to other subjects only according to the dispositions of the law,
and only in order to achieve the institutional purposes of the University.
Personal data from the so-called “sensitive” category may also be processed, that is, data that may reveal
the candidate's state of health. The data in question will not be communicated to others, nor propagated. It
is not obligatory to provide this type of data, and any refusal to provide them has no consequence.

Desideriamo informarLa che il D.lgs. n. 196 del 30 giugno 2003 ("Codice in materia di protezione dei dati
personali") prevede la tutela delle persone e di altri soggetti rispetto al trattamento dei dati personali.
