Gert Jan Pelgrim is geboren op 4 februari 1987 te
Coevorden. Hij is daar ook opgegroeid en behaalde
in 2005 zijn VWO diploma aan de middelbare school
De Nieuwe Veste te Coevorden. Aansluitend begon
hij met de studie Technische Geneeskunde aan de
Universiteit Twente. In 2008 behaalde hij zijn Bachelor
Technische Geneeskunde en vervolgde zijn studie met
de master Robotics & Imaging.
In 2011, werd deze master succesvol afgerond na
een afstudeerstage op de afdeling Radiologie in het
Universitair Medisch Centrum Groningen. Deze
samenwerking beviel van beide kanten goed wat
uiteindelijk resulteerde in de start van dit promotie-traject in begin 2012, onder
leiding van prof. dr. M. Oudkerk en prof. dr. R. Vliegenthart. Dit werk heeft
inmiddels geresulteerd in meerdere publicaties in wetenschappelijke tijdschriften
en is gepresenteerd op meerdere (internationale) congressen.
Na de promotie blijft hij actief binnen de wetenschap door aan het werk te gaan
als post-doc bij het Center for Medical Imaging - North East Netherlands.
Naast zijn werk is Gert Jan actief gebleven in de sport. Zo heeft hij tot 2015
gevoetbald, waarna een blessure hem dwong te stoppen. Daarna is hij begonnen
met wielrennen en tennissen en heeft hij met familie en vrienden in de zomer van
2016 de Alpe d’Huez bedwongen.

Gert Jan Pelgrim was born and raised in Coevorden, The Netherlands, on February
4, 1987. In 2005, he graduated from secondary education (VWO) at De Nieuwe
Veste in Coevorden. Subsequently, he started his Technical Medicine study at the
University of Twente. He obtained his Bachelor degree in Technical Medicine in
2008, after which he started the master Robotics and Imaging.
In 2011, this master was obtained after an internship year at the department
of Radiology in the University Medical Center Groningen. This resulted in the
start of the PhD programme in early 2012, supervised by prof. dr. M. Oudkerk
and prof. dr. R. Vliegenthart. This PhD research resulted in several publications
in (international) scientific journals and presentations at multiple (international)
conferences.
After the PhD defence, he will continue doing research as a post-doc in the
Center for Medical Imaging - North East Netherlands. During the last couple
of years, Gert Jan remained active in sports. He played football untill 2015, after
which an injury caused him to quit this passion. Thereafter, he started cycling and
tennis and conquered the Alpe d’Huez in 2016 with family and friends.
