Didier Reynders félicite le nouveau Président de la Gambie Adama Barrow

Le vice-Premier Ministre et Ministre des Affaires étrangères Didier Reynders félicite le Président Adama Barrow qui a été investi ce jeudi 19 janvier en tant que Président de la Gambie. Cette investiture consacre le respect du résultat des élections présidentielles du 1er décembre dernier et le choix du peuple gambien. La Belgique salue le rôle primordial de la Communauté économique des Etats de l’Afrique de l’Ouest (CEDEAO), avec l’appui de l’Union africaine, de l’Union européenne et du Conseil de sécurité des Nations unies, pour faire respecter l’ordre constitutionnel en Gambie. Il est essentiel que Yahya Jammeh se retire maintenant et permette ainsi une issue négociée à la crise.

Vicepremier en minister van Buitenlandse Zaken Didier Reynders feliciteert Adama Barrow, die gisteren de eed aflegde als president van Gambia. Deze eedaflegging bevestigt het respect voor het resultaat van de presidentsverkiezingen van 1 december en de keuze van het Gambiaanse volk. België is tevreden met de belangrijke rol van de Economische Gemeenschap van West-Afrikaanse Staten (ECOWAS) om, met de ondersteuning van de Afrikaanse Unie, de Europese Unie en de Veiligheidsraad van de Verenigde Naties, de grondwettelijke orde in Gambia te doen naleven. Het is essentieel dat Yahya Jammeh zich nu terugtrekt en een onderhandelde oplossing voor deze crisis mogelijk maakt.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Didier Reynders congratulates President Adama Barrow, who was sworn in yesterday 19 January as President of The Gambia. This inauguration confirms the respect for the results of the presidential elections of 1 December and the choice of the Gambian people. Belgium welcomes the important role of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) that, with the support of the African Union, the European Union and the Security Council of the United Nations, ensures respect for the constitutional order in The Gambia. It is essential that Yahya Jammeh now withdraws and allows a negotiated solution for the crisis.
