A font is a set of printable or displayable text character s in a specific style and size
Types of fonts:
•
Raster Fonts
In a raster font each element is defined as a little bitmap designed for a specific resolution. They are not
scalable like vector based fonts. Nowadays raster fonts are mostly used for MS-DOS-based applications and
onscreen display in user interface elements.

Vector Fonts
A vector font descibes each letter or symbol as a series of geometric shapes, rather than as rows of dots (like
a bitmap font). They can easily be resized without losing quality.

PostScript Type 1 Fonts
PostScipt Type 1 fonts (also known as "PostScript fonts" or "Type 1 fonts") are traditionally used by graphic
designers and publishing professionals. If you are one of them or would like to feel like them, select
PostScirpt. Be aware that to use these fonts in Windows 98 or ME and in Mac OS 9 or earlier you need to
have ATM installed. Adobe launched PostScript Type 1 together with PostScript Type 3 in 1984. This scalable
font technology became very popular among desktop publishers, but is now phasing out as OpenType fonts
are the future

TrueType Fonts
TrueType is a scalable font technology designed by Apple Computer, available since 1991 (Apple's
Macintosh System 7). Apple traded the technology with Microsoft and became available on Microsoft
Windows 3.1 in 1992. of the font. For example, a different file is needed for normal, bold, italic, bold italic,
etc. TrueType typefaces are generally intended for business office use and can be less reliable for publishing
applicationsTruetype fonts only require one file to be submitted but a separate file needs to be submitted
for each instance With TrueType fonts, the printed output is identical to what appears on the screen.
Another advantage of TrueType fonts is that the characters can be scaled to any size.
OpenType Fonts
The OpenType font format is an extension of the TrueType font format, allowing support for
PostScript font data. Technically there are two OpenType Font flavours; TrueType based
(.ttf) and PostScript based (.otf). OpenType was developed jointly by Microsoft and Adobe
to produce a hybrid between Type 1 and TrueType fonts, with additional features that work
on Macintosh and Windows computers. OpenType fonts can include the OpenType Layout
tables, which allow font creators to design better international and high-end typographic
fonts.
System Fonts
System fonts are critical for your system, without them your system might become
unstable. Within MainType you are not allowed to uninstall, unload or delete active system
fonts. Although Microsoft has no public list of such fonts, MainType identifies these fonts as
system fonts.

Unicodes
The Unicode Standard is the universal character encoding standard used for representation of text for computer
processing. Unicode provides a consistent way of encoding multilingual plain text making it easier to exchange
text files internationally
History of Unicodes

In 1984, a joint ISO(International Organization for Standardization )/IEC(International Electrotechnical
Commission ) working group was formed to begin work on an international character set standard that would
support all of the world’s writing systems. This became known as the Universal Character Set (UCS). By 1989,
drafts of the new standard were starting to get circulated.

How to Use Mangal font as a Unicode Font:
Step 1. Go to Control Panel
Step 2. Go to Regional and language options
Step 3. Select Lanuages
Step 4. Enable both options:
Install files for complex script and right to left
languages
Install files for east asian languages
Step 5. It will ask you to insert OS CD , insert the CD in CD/DVD ROM drive it will install the language support and
then ask for computer restart. Restart your computer.
Step 6. Now open internet explorer and type the address http://bhashaindia.com/Downloads/Pages/home.aspx
Click on “Hindi Indic input 1 / Hindi Indic input 2 / Hindi Indic input 3 ” , this will further downlaod a zip file by
unzipping it you can find an exe , just install this application by double clicking on it.
Step 7. Now again go to Control PanelRegional and Language optionslanguagesDetails
Step 8. Click on Add button
Step 9. Select input language= Hindi
Step 10. Select Keyboard Layout/IME =”Hindi Indic IME 1(V 5.1).
Step 11. Click “Apply” and then “Ok”.
Point to Remember : You can change your keyboard layout form English to Hindi or Hindi to English any time by
pressing “Alt+shift key”
Indic Input method Editor (IME) 1, Indic Input 2 and Indic Input
3 are tools that give users a convenient way of entering text in
Indian Languages using the English QWERTY keyboard.

First of all install one freeware App from Google Store named “Google Hind Input” .
After installing this app follow the following steps to enable bilingual keyboard on your Android phone:
For Older versions (2.x versions)
Open Settings and navigate to Language & Keyboard > Keyboard Settings. Here Tick Google
Hindi Input and this input method will be docked in your typing box.
Now in the Input box, Select Input method by long pressing it and then Click on Google Hindi Input.
For Newer Versions (4.x versions)
Open Settings of your android phone and navigate to Language & Input > Keyboard & Input
Methods and Tick Google Hindi input.
After that Click on Default and Select Hindi Translation.
Now whenever you type any mail or some message one new button will appear like
Now click on the highlighted button to enable type in hindi or again click on it to disable
This option and type in English again. As soon as this button will become active a light will start
Glow.
IMP: there is one more circle shaped button
by clicking on it you can get hindi keyboard
on your screen and you can make your typical hindi words those are hard to translate with
Remington keyboard .
