HURRICANE
DYNAMIC AIRFIELDS

Non è possibile percepire l’aria a livello visivo, se non in particolari condizioni.
Ciò nonostante ne possiamo avvertire la presenza ogni volta che ne causiamo
uno spostamento o semplicemente attraverso il vento. Se osserviamo il moto
dell’aria a contatto con gli oggetti e vari elementi, la possiamo percepire visivamente
e vedere le sue forme dinamiche, variabili e in continuo cambiamento. Questo progetto
vuole porre l’attenzione sulla relazione esistente tra vento ed elementi naturali, vuole
ricreare il movimento del soffio d’aria semplificandolo e utilizzando esclusivamente
linee curve che ne seguono il cambio di posizione e producono una forma percepibile
visivamente che mantiene l’idea di dinamismo. Le tinte delle illustrazioni sono ispirate
alla temperatura del colore e la scala delle tonalità mostra la temperatura ideale di cui
abbiamo bisogno in ogni momento dell’anno. Ogni mese contiene la rappresentazione
di un diverso elemento che modifica la sua forma a contatto con il vento e l’aria.
A gennaio abbiamo il fuoco che è alimentato dall’aria, in febbraio un albero piegato
dal vento, a marzo un uragano, in aprile la composizione rappresenta le increspature
dell’acqua create dal vento, a maggio sono state rappresentate le curve della stoffa
mossa dal vento. A giugno il vento inizia a muovere i capelli e in luglio crea le onde nel
mare. Ad agosto l’aria lascia i suoi disegni sulla sabbia e a settembre modella la roccia.
Ad ottobre il vento soffia sui prati d’erba e in novembre modifica le forme del fumo che
esce dai comignoli. Infine a dicembre il vento modella la neve e lascia dei disegni dinamici.
Nata a Sansepolcro (AR) nel 1993, Matilde
si è laureata nel 2015 in Industrial Design
all’Università IUAV di San Marino. Attualmente
lavora nel settore del graphic design e si interessa
a vari aspetti del campo, dal web a progetti
stampati. Matilde ama viaggiare, muoversi e
guardarsi intorno per scoprire e conoscere nuove
cose da cui prende continuamente ispirazione.
È particolarmente curiosa riguardo ciò che la
circonda e ama confrontarsi con mondi e modi
differenti di pensare e allargare così il suo punto
di vista. Nel 2016 è stata selezionata attraverso il
contest organizzato da Fabrica e Daikin “Open Call:
You Shape the air” per realizzare questo calendario.
We can’t perceive air visually except under particular conditions. Nonetheless we
can sense the air whenever we cause a shift or simply in case of wind. If we observe the
air movement in contact with objects and several elements, we can visually perceive
and see its dynamic, variable shapes, in continuous alteration. This project is focused
on the relationship between wind and natural elements; the aim was to recreate this
mobility by simplifying it with the exclusive use of curved lines, which follow the change
of position of the air and give it a perceivable form while also keeping the idea of
dynamism. The tones in the artwork are inspired by the color temperature. The palette
shows the best temperature we need in every moment of the year. Each month of the
year contains a representation of an element that changes its shape in relation to the
wind and the air. In January we have the fire fed by the air, in February a tree bent by
the wind, in March there is a hurricane, in April the composition represents the water
ripples created by the wind, in May there are the curves of a cloth in the wind. In June
the wind starts to move the hair and in July it creates waves in the sea. Then in August
the air leaves its marks in the sand and in September it shapes the rock. The wind
in October moves the grass in the fields and in November it modifies smoke shapes
coming out of the chimneys. Finally in December the wind molds the snow and leaves
dynamic lines in it.
Born in Sansepolcro (AR), Italy, in 1993, Matilde
graduated in 2015 in Industrial Design at the
IUAV University of San Marino. Currently she
works in the graphic design field and she’s
interested in its various aspects, from web to
printing. Matilde loves to travel, to move and
to look around, to discover and learn new things
that inspire her constantly. She’s particularly curious
about her surroundings and loves to be confronted
with different worlds and ways of thinking and,
therefore, expand her point of view. In 2016 she
was selected through the contest organized by
Fabrica and Daikin “Open Call: You Shape the air”
to design this calendar.

Fabrica is a communication research centre.
Located in Treviso, it is an integral part of the
Benetton Group. Fabrica was established in 1994,
and offers a one-year study scholarship, complete
with accommodation and travel expenses to and
from Italy, to an extremely diverse community
of researches from across the globe. Their range
of fields is equally varied, and includes design,
communication, photography, interaction, video,
music, journalism and media. Fabrica is based in
a 17th-century villa that has been restored and
enlarged by Japanese architect Tadao Ando.
