23ste EDITIE VAN DE DJANGOFOLLLIES
Beste persrelatie,
Met genoegen stellen we u de 23ste editie van de DjangofoLLLies voor. Het
festival zal plaatsvinden van 11 tot en met 29 januari 2017.
Op 23 januari is het 107 jaar geleden dat jazzlegende Django Reinhardt geboren
werd. Om de Belgische zigeuner en jazzgitarist feestelijk te vieren brengt
Djangofolllies weer grote namen naast nieuwe ontdekkingen, evenals nieuwe
projecten:

muziek aantonen. Een persoonlijk en universeel muziekgenre dat eeuwig blijft leven en voortdurend
in beweging is en steeds op zoek blijft naar een nieuw modern geluid.

‘Django heeft iets gedaan wat maar weinigen kunnen. Hij was zo groot dat hij op zijn eentje een
muziekgenre (Hot-Club Jazz of Gipsy swing) heeft doen ontstaan. Hij was een virtuoos gitarist met een
groots gevoel voor lyrisme, evenwicht en structuur. Hij nam elementen uit de toen bestaande jazz,
musette en zigeunermuziek en hersmeedde dit op een zo overtuigende originele en tijdloze manier dat
men werkelijk van genie kan spreken. Hij geldt als één van de belangrijkste muziekhervormers uit de
20ste eeuw.’ Waso De Cauter
TER HERINNERING: DE GROTE LIJNEN
Django wordt door velen beschouwd als de grootmeester van de Europese jazz. Deze zigeuner leverde in
zijn improvisaties op de gitaar een belangrijke bijdrage aan de jazz. In zijn spel zit een ongeëvenaarde
intensiteit. Men kan gerust stellen dat er geen enkele befaamde gitarist bestaat die niet op de één of
andere manier iets van Django heeft opgestoken.
‘De Vrienden Van Brosella’ initieerden dit evenement ter nagedachtenis van Django Reinhardt op
aansturen van Koen De Cauter. Omdat de liefhebbers van dit genre destijds meer dan onvoldoende aan
hun trekken kwamen besliste Brosella in 1994 om er een jaarlijks feest van te maken rond de verjaardag
van Django.
Het is daarbij steeds de bedoeling geweest van grensverleggend te werken, wars van trends en
modeverschijnselen, over de barrières van het ‘hot club’ genre heen. Zo kwamen in de Djangofolllies
reeds vele muzikanten aan bod die moderne jazz spelen of die experimenteren met flamenco of met
gedichten van Garcia Lorca of andere creatieve vormen die aan het publiek worden voorgesteld.
Er wordt gestreefd naar een evenwicht tussen publiekstrekkers en jong talent, waardoor deze laatste de
kans krijgen om zich voor te stellen aan een publiek dat aangetrokken wordt door de meer bekende
namen op de affiche.
Over de jaren verwelkomde het festival artiesten als Patrick Saussois & Koen De Cauter Quartet, Fapy

Djangofolllies is ondertussen een vaste waarde en een jaarlijkse afspraak geworden, tot grote vreugde
van zowel de aanhangers van de ‘Django’ stijl als van degenen die hem pas ontdekken. Steeds meer
zalen en centra verspreid over het hele land nemen deel aan het festival. Er zijn uit de schoot van de
Djangofolllies dan ook boeiende uitwisselingen gegroeid, die ook reeds op andere terreinen vruchtbaar
zijn gebleken.

‘Django a fait quelque chose que très peu d’entre nous auraient pu égaler. Il a créé à lui seul un genre
musical à part qu’on appelle le Hot Club Jazz ou le swing gitan. C’était un guitariste virtuose avec une
sensibilité acérée pour la mélodie, l’équilibre et la structure’, raconte Waso De Cauter. ‘Sa façon
originale et intemporelle de fusionner avec conviction les éléments du jazz, de la musette et de la
musique tzigane de l’époque est tout simplement digne d’un génie. Il est considéré comme l’un des
grands réformateurs de la musique du 20e siècle.’
RAPPEL DES GRANDES LIGNES
Django est considéré par beaucoup comme la plus grande personnalité du jazz européen. C’est dans ses
improvisations à la guitare que ce manouche a réalisé une contribution importante au jazz. Son jeu est
d’une intensité inégalée. Tout grand guitariste s’est un jour inspiré de Django, d’une façon ou d’une
autre.
L’asbl ‘Les Amis De Brosella’ a initié les premières Djangofolllies en hommage à ce grand artiste en
1994, sous l’impulsion de Koen De Cauter. Depuis lors, Brosella fête annuellement l’anniversaire de
Django, pour le plus grand bonheur des amateurs de ce genre de musique qui restaient sur leur faim.
Comme toujours, Brosella a la volonté de travailler au-delà des frontières entre les genres musicaux et,
en cela, évite les phénomènes de modes passagers, par-delà les barrières du genre musical, dénommé
‘Hot Club’. Le public des Djangofolllies se voit ainsi offrir des expériences musicales larges et variées.
Tant du jazz actuel, que des expérimentations sur le flamenco ou les poèmes de Garcia Lorca, ou encore
tout autre projet de création estimé intéressant par les organisateurs.
Brosella cherche un équilibre entre les têtes d’affiche et les jeunes talents, donnant ainsi une chance à ces
derniers de rencontrer un public attiré par les artistes plus connus.

Entretemps, les Djangofolllies sont devenues une valeur sûre et un événement incontournable, pour le
plaisir des assidus du style ‘Django’, mais aussi de ceux qui le découvrent. Au fil des ans, de plus en plus
de salles et centres à travers toute la Belgique se joignent à l’événement. Grâce aux Djangofolllies, des
échanges passionnants ont vu le jour qui semblent avoir déjà porté leurs fruits dans d’autres domaines.

effortlessly combined existing elements of jazz with musette and gypsy music to create masterpieces
which have passed and will continue to pass the test of time. He must be considered one of the most

REMINDER OF THE MAIN OUTLINES
Django Reinhardt is commonly considered as the most influential personality that European Jazz has
ever produced. Thanks to his improvisations on the guitar, this Gypsy made a major contribution to Jazz.
His performances were characterized by unmatched intensity. Even today, he remains a model for many
of the world’s greatest guitar players.
Brosella initiated the first Djangofolllies to honour the memory of this great artist in 1994, at the
initiative of Koen De Cauter. Since then, Brosella has celebrated Django’s birthday annually, to the
delight of fans of this kind of music whose thirst for it remained unsatisfied.
It has always been our intention to work across musical boundaries. The programme of Djangofolllies is
not limited to the traditional ‘Django style’ but also includes music which shines a new light on the
genre and goes beyond the barriers of the ‘Hot Club’ music. Brosella has featured a wide and varied
musical programme, including modern jazz, experiments in flamenco, the poems of Garcia Lorca, or
other creative projects that the organizers considered interesting for their audience.
Brosella seeks a balance between the headliners and young talent, giving the latter the opportunity to
play for an audience attracted by better-known artists.
Over the years Djangofolllies has presented such bands as the Patrick Saussois & Koen De Cauter
Quartet, the Fapy Lafertin Quintet, the Tcha Limberger Quartet, the Christian Becker Trio, Radio Lume,
Opus Swing, the Lollo Meier & André Donni Quartet, Alexandre Cavaliere & Jazzy Strings, the Jokke
Schreurs Trio, the Django Experience, …
In the meantime, Djangofolllies has become a significant and major event in its category, to the great joy
of both the aficionados of the ‘Django’ style and the curious newcomers. Over the years, the organizers
have collaborated with many venues throughout Belgium, giving rise to interesting exchanges that seem
to have already borne fruit in other fields.

FAPY LAFERTIN’S SLOWAAKS ROMA EN SINTI PROJECT
Tijdens deze Djangofolllies willen Brosella en De Centrale (Gent), Slowaakse Roma- en
bekende Sinti-muzikanten samenbrengen op één podium. Binnen de Romagemeenschap, die in
Europa zo een 15 miljoen mensen telt, is de diversiteit zeer groot (taal, tradities,…). Het
communistische regime in Midden- en Oost-Europa, dat contact en culturele uitwisseling
onmogelijk maakte, heeft deze verscheidenheid nog versterkt. In dit project ontdekken
Slowaakse Romamuzikanten uit Gent voor het eerst de swing nummers van Django Reinhardt.
Onder de artistieke leiding van Fapy Lafertin en Martin Balogh brengen zij Django-nummers
in verschillende stijlen, zoals die uit de Balkan, de Spaanse rumba en de Hongaarse Cardas.
Fapy Lafertin is ontgetwijfeld één van de belangrijkste en ‘puurste’ vertegenwoordigers van de
Djangostijl. Deze virtuoos groeide op in een zeer muzikale zigeunergemeenschap. Hij werd al
snel een fervent aanhanger van de muziek van Django Reinhardt en speelde in verschillende
formaties waaronder het Waso Quartet en het Quintette du Hot Club De France. Later lanceerde
hij zich solo en toerde in Europa en Amerika. Hij speelde met grote Amerikaanse
jazzmuzikanten waaronder Charlie Byrd, Scott Hamilton, Al Casey, Milt Hinton en Benny
Waters. Technisch is Lafertin buitengewoon begaafd. Dit, en de grote waardering voor de
melodische inhoud van zijn repertoire, maken zijn muziek fascinerend. Zijn besluit om de stijl
van Django Reinhardt te volgen heeft deze fantastische muzikant niet in het verleden
vergrendeld. Integendeel, Fapy Lafertin brengt volmaakt hedendaagse gevoeligheden in
Django’s muziek.
Fapy wordt vergezeld door de internationaal vermaarde violist Tcha Limberger. Tcha
Limberger is de zoon van gitarist Vivi Limberger (Waso Quartet) en kleinzoon van violist
Piotto Limberger, beiden gekende figuren in de gypsy jazz. De muziek, die hij meesterlijk en
genadevol bespeelt, ligt hem nauw aan het hard. Tcha legt zich niet enkel toe op manouche jazz,
maar heeft ondertussen al een hoop andere muziekstijlen in de vingers, getuige het groot aantal
projecten waaraan hij tot nu toe meewerkte.

UN PROJET ENTRE ROMS SLOVAQUES ET SINTI
Pour cette édition des Djangofolllies, Brosella et De Centrale (Gand) ont émis le souhait de
réunir sur une même scène des musiciens Roms slovaques et des musiciens Sinti de renom. Au
sein de la communauté rom, qui compte près de 15 millions de personnes en Europe, la diversité
est très grande (langues, traditions,…). Le régime communiste en Europe de l'Est, qui a rendu le
contact et l'échange culturel entre les différentes communautés impossible, n’a fait que renforcer
cette diversité. Lors de ce projet, des musiciens Roms slovaques de Gand découvrent la musique
swing de Django Reinhardt pour la première fois. Sous la direction artistique de Fapy Lafertin

et Martin Balogh, ils interprètent la musique de Django dans différents styles de musique tels
que celle des Balkans, la rumba espagnole ou encore la czardas hongroise.
Fapy Lafertin est l’un des plus importants et des plus purs représentants de la musique de
Django Reinhardt. Ce virtuose a grandi dans une communauté tzigane très musicale. Il est
devenu très vite un fervent disciple de la musique de Django. Il a joué dans diverses formations
(Waso Quartet, Quintette du Hot Club De France, …) avant de se lancer en solo et de se
produire sur différentes scènes à travers l’Europe et les États-Unis. Il a joué avec de grands
artistes de jazz américains parmi lesquels Charlie Byrd, Scott Hamilton, Al Casey, Milt Hinton
et Benny Waters. Sa technique ardente et son grand sens de la mélodie rendent sa musique
fascinante. En décidant de suivre le style de Django, ce musicien d’exception ne s’est pas
enfermé dans le passé, mais a apporté une sensibilité contemporaine à la musique de Django.
Fapy viendra accompagné du violoniste de renommée internationale, Tcha Limberger. Tcha
est le fils du guitariste Vivi Limberger (Waso Quartet) et le petit-fils du violoniste Piotto
Limberger, deux grandes figures de l'histoire du jazz manouche. Il suffit de l’écouter jouer pour
comprendre toute la profondeur de son amour pour la musique, qu’il lie avec grâce et qualité.
Bien que son cœur penche pour la musique tzigane d’Europe de l’Est et le jazz, Tcha nage
aisément dans plusieurs styles et joue dans un grand nombre d’autres groupes.

FAPY LAFERTIN’S SLOVAKIAN ROMA AND SINTI PROJECT
For this edition of Djangofolllies, Brosella and De Centrale (Ghent) expressed the wish to bring
together on one stage Slovak Roma and renowned Sinti musicians. Within the Roma
community, represented by some 15 million people in Europe, the diversity is very wide
(languages, traditions ...). The communist regimes in Eastern Europe, which made contact and
cultural exchanges between different communities impossible, only strengthened this diversity.
During this project, some Slovak Roma musicians from Ghent are discovering for the first time
the swing music of Django Reinhardt. Under the artistic direction of Fapy Lafertin and Martin
Balogh, they perform Django’s music in various musical styles, such as Balkans music, the
Spanish rumba and the Hungarian czardas.
Fapy Lafertin is undoubtedly one of the most important and purest representatives of the
Django style. Growing up in a community of musicians, this virtuoso very quickly became a
devout follower of the music of Django Reinhardt. He played in various musical combos
(WASO, QHCF ...) before embarking on a solo career and performing on different stages
throughout Europe and the United States. He co-starred with renowned American jazz
musicians such as Charlie Byrd, Scott Hamilton, Al Casey, Milt Hinton and Benny Waters.
Lafertin has an amazing guitar technique while always keeping the melody in mind. He has not
turned out to be a prisoner of the past by following Django's style. On the contrary, he makes
Django’s music sound more modern than ever before.
Fapy will be accompanied by the internationally renowned violinist Tcha Limberger. He is the
son of guitarist Vivi Limberger (Waso Quartet) and the grandson of violinist Piotto Limberger,
both iconic names in gypsy jazz music history. Listening to his music, one can sense the depth
of his love for the music he binds with grace and quality. Tcha tackles several styles and genres
of music with ease and plays in an amazing number of groups in very different styles.

Florin Niculescu is één van de gevestigde waarden binnen de huidige internationale jazzscène.
Dankzij talrijke muzikale samenwerkingen heeft hij een eigen, unieke sound en muziekstijl
ontwikkeld.
Een eigenheid die hij mede te danken heeft aan zijn persoonlijkheid, zijn traditionele zigeuneropvoeding en zijn sterke klassieke opleiding, maar ook aan zijn passie voor diverse jazzgenres.
In de jaren ‘90 verhuisde hij naar Parijs, waar hij inmiddels samenwerkte met een aantal Franse
grootheden zoals Charles Aznavour, Patrick Bruel, Roberto Alagna, Henri Salvador, Françoise
Hardy, Dany Brillant.
Zijn onberispelijke viooltechniek en zijn fenomenale virtuositeit, bewonderd door zowel musici
als luisteraars, zijn voor hem nooit een doel op zich, maar middelen om zijn muzikale
persoonlijkheid uit te drukken. De voor de hand liggende geestelijke verwantschap met
Stéphane Grappelli (1908-1997) is op geen enkele wijze een beperking van zijn eigen expressie,
maar een prikkel die hem aanzet om steeds te innoveren.
Om zijn 25-jarige carrière te vieren trekt Florin Niculescu door heel Europa voor een aantal
concerten, waaronder drie tijdens de Djangofolllies.

Florin Niculescu est aujourd’hui un musicien majeur de la scène jazz internationale. Il a, au
travers de ses multiples collaborations musicales, développé une sonorité propre et un langage
singulier.
Une singularité qui tient d’abord à sa personnalité, mais aussi à sa solide formation classique
nourrie, par ailleurs, par l’expérience tzigane puis orientée vers le jazz dans ses diverses
variantes. Il s’installe à Paris dans les années 1990 et depuis il n’a eu de cesse de créer et de
développer son art. Il a ainsi collaboré avec de grands noms de la chanson française tels que
Charles Aznavour, Patrick Bruel, Roberto Alagna, Henri Salvador, Françoise Hardy ou encore
Dany Brillant.
Son irréprochable technique violonistique et sa phénoménale virtuosité, admirées de tous,
musiciens et auditeurs, ne sont jamais, pour lui, une fin en soi mais bien les moyens d’exprimer
sa personnalité musicale. De même, l’évidente filiation spirituelle avec Stéphane Grappelli
(1908-1997) n’est en rien une limite à son expression propre mais bien un aiguillon qui le
pousse à toujours innover.

Florin Niculescu is one of the most important musicians on the international jazz scene today.
Through his multiple collaborations, he has built his present sound and highly personal musical
style.
He owes this singular language to his personality, a solid classical education embellished by his
gypsy experience and his passion for other jazz styles. He moved to Paris in the 1990s and since
then has continued to create and develop his art. He has collaborated with French stars such as
Charles Aznavour, Patrick Bruel, Roberto Alagna, Henri Salvador, Françoise Hardy, Dany
Brillant.
His impeccable violin technique and phenomenal virtuosity, admired by all musicians and
listeners, are never an end in themselves but are the means of expressing his musical
personality. The obvious spiritual kinship with his idol Stéphane Grappelli (1908-1997) is not a
restriction on his own expression but a stimulus that drives him to innovate continually.
To celebrate his 25-year career, Florin Niculescu is embarking on a European tour comprising a
series of concerts, including three at the Djangofolllies.

Wannes Van de Velde est avant tout connu en Flandre comme barde et parolier, beaucoup
moins comme compositeur. Pourtant, Wannes a créé une multitude de très belles compositions

much less as a composer. However, Wannes has written many brilliant compositions that need
no lyrics to be outstanding.
With his project ‘Wannes meets Django’, Jokke Schreurs highlights this little-known aspect of
Wannes’ repertoire. He demonstrates that Wannes Van de Velde has become a veritable
institution by creating such powerful musical compositions that they can stand alone as jazz
standards, alongside those of Duke, Django, Cole Porter or Gershwin. Jokke also hopes in this
way to raise awareness of this singer-songwriter-troubadour's qualities as a composer.

Lamoral is het muzikaal project van drie beloftevolle jonge muzikanten met saxofonist en
zanger Koen De Cauter, die circa veertig jaar geleden de gypsy jazz en andere minder gekende
muziekstijlen in de kijker plaatste met zijn legendarische ‘Waso Quartet’. Lamoral brengt, naast

Lamoral est composé de trois jeunes musiciens prometteurs et du saxophoniste et chanteur,

Lamoral was conceived as a result of the meeting of three promising and driven young
musicians and well-known saxophonist and singer Koen De Cauter, who some forty years ago

Als akoestisch Gipsy swing kwartet, mengt Minor Sing eigen werk met vertolkingen van
klassiekers van Django Reinhardt en Stéphane Grappelli. Hoewel ze scrupuleus de meesters
respecteren, ontwikkelden zij een eigen identiteit en klankkleurenpalet.
De groep, die aanvankelijk met een zangeres startte (vandaar de naam van Minor Sing), groeide
in 2014 uit tot een volwaardig instrumentaal kwartet met de komst van Yannick Alcocer (ook
gitarist van Les Doigts de l’Homme).
Yannick Alcocer (Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivië) gooit zich met zijn vaders’ gitaar op de
Latijns-Amerikaanse muziek. Bij zijn aankomst in Frankrijk ontdekt hij de Westerse muziek,
waaronder de jazz en de soul. Verliefd op de muziek van Django, neemt hij zijn eerste albums in
Bretagne op vooraleer hij zich bij Les Doigts de l’Homme gaat aansluiten. De violist en
jazzgitarist Jean Lardanchet, eveneens een fanaat van de muziek van Django en Grappelli, is al
zo’n tien jaar actief in de Gipsy jazz scene. Muzikant en componist Sylvain Pourrat werkt
zowel samen met jazzformaties en hedendaagse muziekensembles, als met acteurs (Bastien
Brison Trio, Les Amandises, Trio Kodama). Laurent Vincenza, die de muziek van Django op
zijn twaalfde ontdekte dankzij een oude LP uit zijn vader’s collectie, verdeelt vandaag zijn tijd
tussen het geven van concerten met Minor Sing en het doceren van de gitaar aan het
conservatorium van Limonest.
Samen brengen ze een vrolijke, meeslepende swing. Hun samenhorigheid en humor op het
podium dragen bij aan hun succes en weten een steeds groter publiek aan te trekken.

disques swing en Bretagne avant de rejoindre, en 2005, Les Doigts de l’Homme. Jean
Lardanchet, violoniste et guitariste de jazz et amoureux de la musique de Django et Grappelli,
est actif depuis plus de dix ans sur la scène manouche. Le musicien et compositeur Sylvain
Pourrat travaille aussi bien au sein de formations de jazz, de musiques actuelles qu’avec des

comédiens (Bastien Brison Trio, Les Amandises, Trio Kodama). Laurent Vincenza, qui a
découvert la musique de Django grâce à un vieux 33 tours emprunté à son père, partage son
temps entre les concerts avec la formation Minor Sing et l’enseignement de la guitare au

As a French gypsy swing acoustic quartet, Minor Sing blends own compositions and

Trumpeter René De Smaele and guitarist Mario Cavaliere share the same passion for the music of
Django Reinhardt and Louis Armstrong, for Swing and the music of the thirties. Together, they put a
surprisingly original mix of gypsy jazz and classical jazz. It is fact that very few trumpet players are able
to play Django’s music properly, because his pitches and rhythms are very unusual for brass players.
René and Mario who have been performing for several years together now, will be accompanied by
Mario’s son, violinist Alexandre Cavaliere.
For the Djangofolllies, they are proud to invite their friend, the well-known French composer, violinist
and guitarist Dorado Schmitt. Dorado, considered one of the great stars of gypsy jazz, contributed to the
development of a universal artistic heritage: some of his works have become standards in the world of
jazz.
No one has done more to ignite contemporary interest in the idiom than Dorado Schmitt. Born to gypsy
parents near the German border in Lorraine, France, Dorado was weaned on traditional Roma music and
gypsy jazz. He rebelled as a teenager by taking up electric guitar and emulating Jimi Hendrix and Carlos
Santana. Schmitt started visiting the United States in 2002 and has become a star attraction at major
festivals. He has stolen the show at several of the annual Django Reinhardt New York Festivals at
Birdland, and his legendary status has earned him the role of ambassador to the jazz world, performing
alongside Oscar Peterson, Paquito D’Rivera, George Benson and James Carter. He now stands as one of
the most respected and in-demand gypsy jazz artists in the world. Against the tide of fashion and show
business pressures, his kindness and natural voice bring pride to the gypsy community.
Three guitars, a violin, a double bass, an accordion, a trumpet with a collection of mutes, vocals,
sparkling scats and a soupçon of percussion: such are the ingredients that make this programme very
eclectic and exciting at the same time.

Le trompettiste René De Smaele et le guitariste Mario Cavalière sont de grands passionnés de la
musique de Django Reinhardt, Louis Armstrong, du Swing et de la musique des années 30. Ensemble, ils
proposent un mélange surprenant de jazz manouche et jazz classique. Peu de trompettistes jouent en effet
le répertoire de Django dans lequel les tonalités et les rythmes sont inhabituels pour des cuivres. René et
Mario qui jouent ensemble depuis quelques années maintenant seront accompagnés par le violoniste
Alexandre Cavalière, fils de Mario.
A l’occasion des Djangofolllies, ils invitent leur ami, le célèbre compositeur, violoniste et guitariste
français, Dorado Schmitt. Dorado, considéré comme l’une des grandes étoiles du jazz gitan, a contribué
à l’élaboration d’un patrimoine artistique universel : plusieurs de ses œuvres sont devenues des succès
dans le milieu du jazz.

Personne n'a autant suscité l'intérêt contemporain pour le style manouche que Dorado Schmitt. Né de
parents tziganes près de la frontière allemande en Lorraine (France), Dorado a été sevré à la musique

koperblazers. René en Mario die nu al verschillende jaren samenspelen, zullen worden vergezeld door
Mario’s zoon, vioolvirtuoos Alexandre Cavalière.
Speciaal voor deze editie van Djangofolllies nodigen ze hun vriend, de beroemde Franse componist,
violist en gitarist Dorado Schmitt uit. Dorado, beschouwd als een van de grote sterren van de gypsy
jazz, draagt bij aan de ontwikkeling van een universeel artistiek erfgoed: verschillende van zijn
composities zijn welbekende jazznummers geworden.
Niemand heeft meer gedaan dan Dorado Schmitt om de hedendaagse belangstelling voor het muzikaal
genre op te wekken. Geboren uit Roma-ouders kortbij de Duitse grens in Lorraine (Frankrijk), werd

de jazz-wereld en speelde hij naast muzikanten zoals Oscar Peterson, Paquito D'Rivera, George Benson
en James Carter. Dorado Schmitt is nu één van de meest gerespecteerde en gevraagde gypsyjazzartiesten
ter wereld. Met zijn vriendelijkheid en natuurlijke stem vol ontroerende emotie, gaat hij in tegen alle
modestromingen en de druk van de show business, wat hem de trots van de zigeuners maakt.
Drie gitaren, een viool, een contrabas, een accordeon, een trompet met sourdine, zang, wervelende scats

Sinds het voorjaar van 2008 maakt Vano Bamberger & Band furore in diverse clubs en op
gerenommeerde festivals in binnen- en buitenland.
Sinto-gitarist Vano Bamberger werg geboren in 1965 in Hanau, dichtbij Frankfurt (Duitsland).
Zijn grootvader Joe Weiss, die gedurende de tweede wereldoorlog in Frankrijk gewoond heeft
en Django Reinhardt gekend heeft, kocht hem zijn eerste gitaar. Volgens de traditie van de Sinti,
hebben de Bambergers de muziek zelf leren spelen door mondelinge overdracht, zonder
muzikale theorie. Vano was reeds in 2002 te bewonderen aan de zijde van Ziroli Winterstein op
het album ‘Love Letters’. In 2008 richtte hij zijn eigen kwintet, Vano Bamberger & Band, op.
Hij bracht zijn eerste solo-album uit in 2013, geproducet door de befaamde Siegfried Maeker.
Hij ontving recent de Main-Kinzig-Kulturpreis voor zijn bijdrage aan de Duitse cultuur.
Ter gelegenheid van Djangofolllies, worden de gebroeders Bamberger vergezeld door de
Oekraïense violist Siergiej Wowkotrub. Siergiej, die een klassieke muzikale opleiding in de
Sovjet-Unie volgde, leeft nu al een twintigtal jaren in Polen. De invloed van Stéphane Grappelli
leidde hem snel naar de gypsy jazz.
De muziek van dit ensemble wordt gekenmerkt door een zeer sterk temperament en een
opmerkelijke energie. Slavisch-Oosterse invloeden waar je nooit genoeg van krijgt. Dit zeer
ervaren kwintet zal de diep verborgen jazzliefhebber in je opwekken !

Depuis le printemps 2008, le Vano Bamberger & Band fait sensation dans les clubs et festivals
de renom dans leur pays et à l'étranger.

A l’occasion des Djangofolllies, les frères Bamberger viendront accompagnés du violoniste

Since spring 2008, Vano Bamberger & Band have been causing quite a sensation in clubs and
at renowned festivals in their own countries and abroad.
The German Sinto guitar player Vano Bamberger was born in Hanau, near Frankfurt in 1965.
