World Affairs Council Activities
So far this year we have heard from guest speakers on a
variety of topics including:
Germany after the Fall of the Wall - Peter Schneider
Business: Thinking Globally - Bryant Salter
Ebola Crisis - Model Global Ebola Coalition
You need to keep checking the website and paying attention
to your texts/emails from Remind 101 to stay in the loop. We
only find out about these a couple of weeks in advance. So
you won’t hear about these at the monthly meetings.
GLOBAL LEADERSHIP
CERTIFICATE
This is a very exciting NEW opportunity for students to participate in
courses and activities in the HUMANITIES AND LANGUAGES and have it
validated and authenticated. Through a range of experiences offered in
school, in the community, and by the World Affairs Council of Pittsburgh,
this certificate is a means for students to develop a deep and nuanced
understanding of the world around them, prepare for a rapidly changing
workforce, and hone their leadership abilities.
GLOBAL LEADERSHIP
Certificate Requirements
Students in grades 9-11 The certificate should take two years to complete (at a minimum).
● Students must attend the Global Leadership Certificate orientation at their school (date to be
determined).
● Students (and parents) must complete an online application and sign a certificate contract
annually, acknowledging their commitment to the program.
● Students must select and successfully complete at least 12 different experiences from those
outlined in the Global Leadership Certificate Matrix. A minimum number of experiences is
required in each category.
● Students must attend a minimum of two out-of-school “global gatherings” (foreign film
screenings, international art exhibit, etc.). The World Affairs Council will organize several
gatherings each school year to allow certificate students to meet as a cohort.
● Students must submit a proposal detailing their final Awareness to Action capstone project to
World Affairs Council staff for approval within one year of beginning the certificate.
