A Global City: Liverpool
• Liverpool’s unique culture is a direct result of its diverse
communities
• Total Population – 465,700 (Source ONS 2011)
• 13.7% (63,800) are Non ‘White British’
• Between 2001/2009 BAME Population increased by 23,800
• Almost half of this growth occurred in ‘white other’ group which
includes residents from Eastern Europe including Poland, Czech
Republic, Romania) and countries such as the Yeman
• Other population groups that increased - Indian, Pakistani and
Black African
Liverpool: A Renewed Commitment
• Change in local governance led by a newly elected Mayor
• Mayoral pledge to renew commitment to the Declaration
• Instigating a programme of change that recognises the
importance of our new and emerging communities, particularly
economically
• Celebrating culture and the diversity of our communities has
been and continues to be a key strategic driver of the City’s
recent renaissance
