• In 2015: Seven faculties, 20000 students, 3000 staff
• Undergraduate, graduate and doctoral studies
• The Faculty of Humanities has more than 5000 students
& ca. 200 staff
• Research on cultural interaction emphasized, Baltic Sea
Region is one of three focus regions
• Compact campus almost in the city center

MDP in Baltic Sea Region Studies
• A multidisciplinary, international, fully Englishlanguage programme coordinated by the Faculty
of Humanities
• We look at the world from the perspective of the
Baltic Sea region and the sea itself
• We combine thematic studies in history,
international relations, political science, human
geography and cultural studies with training in
transferable skills that are needed in postgraduation working life

Our Focus Areas
• The evolution, potential and challenges of
BSR as a region from national, regional and
international perspectives
• Cross-border areas and interaction within
the BSR; Russia and European North
• Emphasis on security, environmental and
energy issues, history, identity and culture

Working methods
• Teaching is based on research of the
teachers
• We value our interactive academic
community and a conversational approach in
teaching and studying
• Our working methods include writing essays,
learning diaries and short research papers,
peer-reviewing, giving presentations, having
group discussions, taking exams
