Afterthoughts of a Worm Hunter
By D.W.T Crompton
£12.99 plus postage & packaging
David Crompton is a helminthologist — a worm
hunter. His travels have taken him from Myanmar
to Panama, from Kenya to Nigeria, and having
retired from the academic world he has
developed the essays in this book from notes
made about the places and people that enriched
his career. In terms both amusing and moving,
this thought-provoking book illuminates the world
of parasitology and its effect on world health.
David has generously agreed that all proceeds
from the sale of the book will go directly into the
GCID Scholarship Fund, which finances
postgraduate studies in Glasgow for students
from some of the poorest countries in the world.
How to order: The book is priced at £12.99 (plus £3 for postage and packaging) and can be
ordered by sending a cheque payable to the ‘University of Glasgow’ to:
Professor John Briggs
Director, Glasgow Centre for International Development

“I am always attracted to a book with an interesting title, and what could be more
intriguing than Afterthoughts of a worm hunter. This is a personal story, about one man’s
determination to do something about a world wide health problem. It has something for
everyone. Good stories, good science and a great purpose; to make the world a better
place. This is an uplifting book, and one which will bear re-reading and reflection.
But that’s not all. The funds raised by the book will go to the University of Glasgow Centre
for International Development (GCID) scholarship scheme, routed through the
Chancellor’s Fund, to fund postgraduate students from developing countries. It thus both
engages the reader and encourages more research and personal development. What
could be better, and I am delighted to support the book and the project.”
Sir Kenneth Calman, Chancellor of the University of Glasgow
