Read: At the conclusion of the
French and Indian War, the
British more than doubled their
colonial possessions in N.
America. If you remember the
war started partly when English
colonists from PA, VA, and NY
started pressing into the Ohio
Valley.
Do now:

In a min of 2 lines: *** The
war is over*** If you were
an English colonist what
would your reaction be if
the British government
told you that you couldn’t
enter and settle in the Ohio
Valley?


If you haven’t done so, show me your
completed 5.2 handout.
Today, I will be able to explain the
intent of the Proclamation of 1763. I
will be able to explain colonial reaction
to British taxation and provide specific
examples.
Colonists were
forbidden to settle
west of the
imaginary line that
extended along the
crest of the
Appalachian Mts.
Any settlers that
were occupying that
territory were to
“remove
themselves” at once.


Britain gains a lot of territory.
Britain will be able to expand trade (now controlling the St.
Lawrence, Ohio, and most of the Mississippi Rivers).

French threat in N. America is ended.

Native American relationships are strained even further.

Britain racked up a tremendous amount of debt.

Colonists are expected to help pay off the debt.

France will begin to spiral towards financial disaster, but not
noticeable for another generation.
