1. What do I use as a green screen?
• You can go to a fabric store and buy bright
green cloth to hang in your classroom
• You can buy a Yoostar off of Ebay or Amazon.
• You can go to tubetape.com to buy a real
expensive one too.
2. What do I use to take my video?
• If you have a mac, you can use the video of
Photobooth.
• You can use a flip camera to take videos
against the green screen then use effects in
your video editing software (Movie Maker,
iMovie ’09, etc) to overlay the picture or video
background.
3. Why is my finished video or picture
not coming out perfect?
1) Lighting is essential to
the green screen
effect. If you have to
many shadows, then
you will have spots
that still show up
green. If you want
perfection, you need
to have a thicker
screen and better
lighting.
2) Distance is another
factor. Standing too
close to the green
screen produces
shadows and can
cause the screen to
flutter. I have my
students stand or sit 23 feet away from the
green screen.
4. I want to do green screening but
how do I get started?
• The easiest is to do a “This day in History”
• History.com is a great resource for information
• discoveryeducation.com is a great resource for
videos and information, but it’s a subscription
service.
