MODELING
The final step on the drawing process is shading. The
handout on Types of Shading is for the types of shading you will
use for our last major project. The synonym for modeling is
shading or different values to achieve depth or shape. We will fill in
the blanks with different methods of modeling.
The following two pages are examples of modeling.

THE FOLLOWING FOUR SLIDES SHOW THE MAJOR AND FINAL PROJECT
FOR THE DRAWING CLASS – A STILL LIFE. STUDENTS ARE TO USE ALL
THE STEPS IN THE DRAWING PROCESS TO COMPLETE THIS PROJECT –
GESTURE, EYE LEVEL CHECK, ANGLE LINES CHECK, COMPARATIVE
MEASUREMENT, NEGATIVE SPACE, CONTOUR AND MAPPING, AND
MODELING.
THE PROJECT IS TO COMPLETE TWO COMPLETE FINISHED DRAWINGS.
SO THAT STUDENTS DO NOT HAVE TO DRAW THE SAME STILL LIFE
TWICE, THE FIRST ONE IS TRACED WHILE IT IS A CLEAN LINE DRAWING
IN PENCIL USING THE LIGHT TABLE. THE TWO DRAWINGS ARE TO BE
COMPLETED USING DIFFERENT TYPES OF MODELING.
IT IS BEST TO ALWAYS DO THE WORK WHILE LOOKING AT THE ACTUAL
STILL LIFE, NOT TRYING TO DO IT FROM MEMORY. DON’T FORGET THE
LIGHT AND SHADOWS. SHADE IN A BROAD RANGE OF VALUES.
Step 1 - Gesture
Step 2 – Contour drawing to clean line drawing
Make a pencil copy on the light table for 2nd drawing
Step 3 – Finish with one type of modeling
Step 4 – Finish with a different type of modeling
