What does all this mean?
 1- Patients with 30< GFR < 45 can now receive
full dose contrast MRIs.
 Previously half dose or no contrast
 2- Patients with 30< GFR < 45 who require a
CT, now can get a C+ MRI instead of C- CT.
 Huge diagnostic advantage. Examples:
 CTAs (hepatic arteries, PE studies)
 Abscesses, septic workups…
 Acute abdomen, Acute chest syndrome…
How can I take advantage?
 Keep in mind to request MRI C+ for all
patients unless GFR < 30
 Greatly simplifies ordering
 Keep in mind to ask for MRI C+ instead of the
“limited” CT non-contrast if 30< GFR < 45 .
 Liberally call the radiologists for advice until
the practice is well established.
