Tower Alignment Summary

Used their CMM which runs PC-DMIS
Created measurement scripts for automated measurements
Derived CS which puts tower in optimized position, i.e. Z-axis vertical wrt gravity, X, Y
symmetrical to actual shape
Determined coordinates of flexure conicals in tower CS
Comparing actuals vs design yields dial-in settings for cones
Applied settings, mounted tower to base
Cross-checks good to 500 µm (TBs too small and loose)
Planned measurements at SLAC
– Verify procedure by independently creating equivalent measurement routine on our
Leitz PMM using Quindos
– Repeat measurement / alignment cycle at least three times
