Special Education Parent Survey
 Why do we conduct the parent survey?
 The Bureau of Indian Education (BIE) is mandated to meet
State Performance Plan (SPP) indicators targets set forth in the
Individual with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
 One of the indicators is Indicator 8, percent of parents with a child
receiving special education services who report that schools
facilitated parent involvement as a means of improving services and
results for children with disabilities.
 BIE reports annually to the Office of Special Education Programs
(OSEP) the BIE schools performance in meeting the SPP target
for indicator 8 target in the Annual Performance Report (APR).
 The BIE collects reporting data for indicator 8 from parents or
guardians of students with disabilities from the parent survey.
 The results from the Special Education Parent Survey help guide
BIE’s efforts in improving services to children with disabilities
and provide ideas to increase parent involvement in the process
at both the State Education Agency (SEA) and Local Education
Agency(LEA) – schools, levels.

Special Education Parent Survey
 BIE-DPA is requesting all parents and guardians of
students with disabilities that received special education
and related services at a BIE funded school during
school year 2014-2015 to complete a parent survey
 In order for the BIE to get reliable results, all schools must
participate and all of the parents must have been given the
opportunity to respond to this survey.
