Theme
Assessment, feedback and 2012
• We have been a more autonomous faculty for
just over 3 years
• In that time, driven by external and internal
factors, we have made a conscious effort to
improve the quality and timeliness of assessment
and feedback
• This has gone hand in hand with a desire to
improve the student learning experience through
more and better formative assessment

initiatives?
• How would you have liked these to have been

they ask?
Ways of providing feedback
• There are numerous ways of providing
feedback to students
• I’m going to ask a few questions and then
we’ll have a discussion

Discussion points (20 minutes)
• Why do we use exams?
• What are they best and worst for?
• Why are they are good and bad for student
learning and engagement?
• Are there better options?
Conclusion (5 minutes)
• Where do we go from here?
• Do we want to take any themes forward?
• If so, how?
