• Overall objective
– Yellowfin tuna is being fished within FMSY, but bigeye tuna
fishing mortality remains in excess of FMSY (index of 1.4
for 2007-2010)
– Tuna discards by purse seiners in recent years
approaching 1% of total catch

training and programme support
– 2 Noumea-based positions (coordination, training and
support)
– 1 Pohnpei-based training & support position
• NZAID-funded project has complementary

EEZ-scale tuna dynamics, fishery impacts, impacts of
environmental variability

advice to P-ACPs and sub-regional groups as requested

tags released
– PTTP totals now 363,659 releases; 62,293 recoveries
(17%)
