Background
• Salford Forum for Older People (SFOP)
commissioned a review of public toilets in
Salford in 2009/10
• 9 recommendations
• Conclusion: “Establishing public toilets as a
priority can have a significant impact on the
quality of the lives of older people in Salford”
• City council (CHSC) staff picked up the work
(2011/12) due to funding cuts (Link Age Plus)
and capacity issues for SFOP.

Summary
• Progress against the actions in the report have
been limited due to capacity
• The city council has been able to address
actions related to information provision and
DDA in relation to city council facilities
• Salford Forum for Older People has been
limited in its ability to manage this process
Conclusions
• City council should review the actions
from the report and propose a new set of
realistic actions
• An appropriate lead section needs to be
identified to progress the work.
