Capacity – Cups, Pints, Quarts, &
Gallons
By: Brittany Compton, Courtney Nichols, & Kristal Clark
 Dr.
Ross’s Third Grade Class
Our group with the use of measuring cups,
snack food, and juice will instruct these 3rd
graders in the estimation and measurement
of cups, pints, quarts, and gallons. We will
work together in a hands-on project that the
students will actively engage in to teach the
use of measuring skills.
The students got the opportunity to work
with enthusiastic and excited teaching
students from NWACC. We, the student
teachers, worked closely with Dr. Ross of
Elm Tree Elementary and her third grade
class.

We taught the
students to use
appropriate and
customary
measurement tools
with regard to
capacity.
Cups and Pints,

We applied the “Work
in Progress” provided
to us from Dr. Ross as
well as the Arkansas
State Standards for
math for the 3rd
grade.
Quarts and Gallons, oh my!
We used computers, cameras, video recorder, and everyday measuring
cups and gallon pitchers. We also incorporated snack food and drinks.
As a team we worked together to teach
the students of the 3rd grade class about
capacity. We divided the work and
brought our individual pieces together in
the end. We worked hands-on with the
students and each other. We also
collaborated closely with Dr. Ross, our
host teacher.
Our process to complete this project
included patience, cooperation, and
organization. We also had great students!
 The
expected outcomes included actually
teaching the students to measure and then
having the students end up with their own
equally measured snacks and juice. We also
wanted to have an overall successful project
and presentation.
