Solving Equations
Variables on Both Sides

First get all like terms on the same side by
using the opposite operation

Combine like terms

Get the variable by itself using multiplication
or division
Example 1

Solve
2𝑥 − 2 = −3𝑥 + 3
Example 2

Solve
6𝑚 + 5 − 7𝑚 = 10 − 5𝑚 + 3
Example 3

Solve
3 𝑛 − 2 − 1 = 2 − 5(𝑛 + 5)
Solve.

1. 7𝑦 + 5 = 2𝑦 + 10

2. 5 − 2𝑝 = 3𝑝 − 5

3. 7𝑥 − 17 + 2𝑥 = 2 − 8𝑥 + 15

4. 3𝑛 − 15 = 5𝑛 + 3 − 4𝑛

5. 3 7 + 2𝑥 = 30 + 7(𝑥 − 1)

6. 4 3 + 5𝑦 − 4 = 3 + 2(𝑦 − 2)

7. 4𝑥 − 7 = 3𝑥
8. 9𝑥 − 6 = 3𝑥
