Introduction to Reverse Engineering
Development of computer hardware and software make 3D CAD/CAM has
been rapid progress. Then in modeling is growing up to the forwardengineering and reverse engineering.
 Reverse engineering is for no original design drawing files. For example :
Curved surface , samples or models by hand made.
 Integration of contact and non-contact 3D measurement system is mainly
used to measure the complex surface shape of the point data.
 Imitation working model, the follow-up after editing, the work is usually
performed imitation, such as shoe mold, golf club, that will be able to copy
it.
 To put CAM into the machine tools or rapid prototyping and the model will
be produced.

3D Scanner Category-Contact Type
Advantage:

High accuracy and reliability.

Nothing to do with the reflection of
the work piece.

Suitable for general basic shape
measurement.
Disadvantage:
E-trigger probe and CMM

Use special fixtures.

Probe ball need to be revision , easy to
abrasion caused by contact force.

Incorrect operation easily damage the
work piece.

Contactless Type :

Advantage:

Not need to do the probe radius
compensation.

Measuring speed is very fast.

Not considered material.
Disadvantage:

Poor measurement accuracy.

The color and curvature are
susceptible to limit.

Need to handle the mixed signal.

Roughness of the surface will
affect the measurement results.

3D laser scanner of The Dynamic Principle
Non-contact measurement system is used to LED or laser light source, a
condenser lens direct rays of the work piece to be measured by the object,
the reflection of light can detect the position of the coordinate values ​from
the sensor.

CCD grating for dynamic 3D scanner principle
Such principle as the corresponding function method is finding the relationship
between measurement plane spatial coordinates and CCD imaging methods.
When you scan , the space corresponding function will compute to reduce the
dislocation problem.

Produce single-point data
Using 3D laser scanner to scan model. There will need 5 surface scan data.
If the data is not enough , it will not completely to go next stage.

After the scan is complete and you can overlap each data. To select
obvious characteristic curves to overlap and you can get the original
object and a similar file data after completion.
