數詞的譯法

翻譯時要根據習慣加用量詞。

•英語的基數詞中沒有「萬」這個單位

第一節 複數形式的數詞
•數詞以複數形式出現時，大多有比較特
殊的意義，還有不少屬於習慣用法的片
語，要根據不同的用法，選用相當的語
意來表達。例如：
1) They packed the ligters in tens.
他們把打火機每十個裝一包。
2) They are counted by hundreds.
這些是成百地計算的。

3) We have consulted tens of reference books
on plastics.
我們查閱了幾十本關於塑料的參考書。
4) Automation helps to increase productivity
hundreds of times over.
自動化能使生產率提高幾百倍。
5) Every year tens of thousand of foreign
friends come to visit China.
每年有數以萬計的外國朋友來訪問中國。

6) Coal is made from trees and other plants
that grew on the earth millions of years ago.
煤是由數百萬年前地球上生長的樹木和

第二節 表示數量增加的詞語
•英語表示數量增加的詞語比漢語多，如
表示倍數的詞就有times（倍）、-fold
（…倍）、multiple（倍數）、double
（加倍，雙倍的）、duple（二倍的）、
twice（兩倍）等等，表示增加的用語也
不少，翻譯時要注意區別兩種情況：

1.表示純粹增加數的：
表示純粹增加的用語有：”increase by …”、”be
expanded to…”、”go up by…”，可譯為「增加
了…」、「擴大了…」、「提高了…」，例如：
1) The grain output has increased by three times.
糧食產量增加了三倍。
2) By 1974 the paddy field area had been expanded
to one-third more than that of 1949.
1974年水稻種植面積比1949年擴大了三分之一。

3) Annual production of steel has gone up by
more than 25%.
鋼的年產量提高了百分之二十五以上。
4) A is three times bigger than B.
甲比乙大三倍。

2.表示增加後的總數的：
表示增加後的總數的用語
有”increase…times”、”-fold
increase”、”…time over…”等，應譯為「增加
到…倍」，或將原詞的數量減一後再譯成「增
加了…倍」，例如：
1) Productions is now double what it was.
產量比過去增加了一倍。
或：產量為過去的兩倍。
2) A is three times as large as B.
甲為乙的三倍。或：甲比乙大兩倍。

3) In 1975 the export value of garments was
6.3 times that of 1965.
1975年服裝的出口額比1965年增加了5.3
倍。
4) The number of pigs has increased more
than twofold.
豬數增加了一倍多。
5) The production of hardware has been
increased over three times.
五金製品的產量增長了兩倍多。

6) The output of potassium nitrate for 1975
was 50 times over that for 1964.
1975年硝酸鉀的產量相當於1964年的五
十倍。
7) Between 1957 and 1975, Ya pears for
export have increased six times.

第三節 表示數量減少的詞語
•表示減少的詞語也有兩種情況：一種是
用一般的數詞表示的，可以原詞的數量
翻譯，如”reduced by 30%”可譯成「減
少百分之三十」；一種是用倍數詞表示
的，翻譯時要換用分數表示，
如”reduced 7 times”應譯成「減少到七分
之一」，或「減少了七分之六」。

1.可以按原詞的數量翻譯的例子：
1)The price was reduced by 10 percent.
價格降低了百分之十。
2)The volume of an electric motor can be
reduced by one third by using glass fiber for
electric insulation.
用玻璃纖維作電器絕緣材料，可使電動
機的體積縮小三分之一。

3) This rope is half as long as that one.
這條繩子只有那條的一半長；
或這條繩子比那條短一半。
4) The loss of metal has been reduced to less
than 20%.
金屬損耗已降低百分之二十以下。

2.譯文要改用分數表示的例子：
1) The length of the laser tube was reduced ten
times.
雷射管的長度縮短了十分之九。
或：雷射管的長度縮短為十分之一。
2) The principal advantage is a six-fold reduction in
volume.
主要優點是體積縮小了六分之五。
或：主要優點是體積縮小為六分之一。
3) The length has been shortened 4 times.
長度縮短了四分之三。
4) There is a three-fold fall in price.

第四節 表示數量不確定的譯法
•英語中，還有一些數字所表示的含義是
不確定的數量。如：

腐植土的形成需要幾百年的時間，所以
應當避免任何損失。

3. 由more, more than, over或above所組
成的不確定的數字：
a mile or more 一英里多

1) Rockets with more than one stage are
called step rockets.

字：
