The Problem
• Which brand of dishwashing liquid will
make the biggest bubble?
Materials

8 oz. of 3 different brands of dishwashing liquid
Water
Measuring cup
Paper towels
Glycerin
Meter sticks
Drinking straws
Digital cameras
Procedures
• Mix 1 cup dishwashing liquid with 50 drops
glycerin and 1 gallon of water. Repeat for all 3
dishwashing liquids.
• Pour approx. ¼ cup of soap solution on the table
and use your hand to wet a table area approx. 18”
in diameter.
• Dip a straw into the soap solution, place it on the
table and blow to form a bubble.
• Take a digital photo of the bubble.
• When the bubble pops, use the meter stick to
measure the diameter of the soap ring.

• The bubbles had an average
diameter of 28 cm.
• The solution used was Joy
dishwashing liquid.

Conclusion
• Our group was surprised that Joy the less expensive
dishwashing liquid made the biggest bubbles.
• We predicted that the Ajax (most expensive) would
make the biggest bubbles.
