Rotation Emphasis: small animal

Recommended: small animal or mixed
animal

Best time to take: anytime

Intern candidates: summer or autumn

Clinic Schedule: 8 am to approximately 5.30
pm most days

Outpatient/Inpatient: large outpatient
caseload, but 4-6 hospitalized cases per
week

Weekend Duty: if cardiology cases are in
the hospital, plus SA IM emergency schedule

What should you expect to do:
 Clinical assessment of referred and emergency
cardiac and respiratory cases
 Additional studies of assigned readings and ECGs
 Analysis of cardiopulmonary diagnostic testing
Receiving:
 9 am-12 pm, Monday through Friday
Service Specific Clinic Work Expectations:



Completion of records, referral letters,
communications as indicated
Assist as needed with restraint and technical
procedures
Interpretation of diagnostic test results

On-Call Schedule/ICU:
 Participate in  Small Animal On Call
 ICU schedule
Study Expectations:
 Review of cardiovascular physiology
and medicine notes prior to rotation
 Background reading on hospitalized
cases
 Other assigned readings
 Practice ECGs
