Mission Statement
We believe that the purpose of Elmont
Memorial High School is to effect an
environment where learning takes place. We
are dedicated to academic achievement, the
development of academic and personal
values, and the cultivation of individual
strengths and talents in a supportive
environment for our diverse, multinational
student body. This learning process results
from a covenant between the students and
those involved in their education: teachers,
parents, administrators, support staff and
community members.
What is Title I?
Federal funds earmarked for equipment and programs to
improve the academic achievement of at-risk students.
Funds are to be used for math and English instruction,
programs and equipment.
How are Title I monies awarded?
Monies are awarded to the district on the basis of the percent of
free and reduced price lunch recipients (currently: 40%) .
Only Elmont Memorial and Sewanhaka HS qualify for Title 1.
Monies are to be used to benefit at-risk students.
How do we use our Title I funds?
Salary: 2 teachers– Math Department, 2.35 teaching assistants:
Math and English Department.
After-school direct instruction programs.
Read 180 program costs.
Professional development for teachers.
New equipment for AIS classrooms including graphing calculators
and white boards.
Instructional materials.
