– Non-Defense Cuts:
• 8.4% cut across the board
• $54.7 billion in 2013
– Defense Cuts:
• 7.5 % cut
• $54.7 billion in 2013
• Includes Defense-related research funding

• Immediate Impacts of Sequestration
– Pell Grants are EXEMPT
– Cuts to research programs (NSF, NOAA, etc.)
– Examples of Impact on AK (Harkin Report - LHHS)
• $933,150 cut to Improving Teacher Quality State Grants
– 984 fewer teachers in AK, serving 16,029 students, receive
professional development
• $33,224 cut to Federal Work Study Program
– 15 fewer students in AK will receive financial assistance
