Review 1:
Good text - HORRIBLE REFERENCE!!! This book is typical of books published by APress. It is
essentially useless as a reference because it has a ridiculously incomplete index. Key words like
Property, Pane, layout, etc. are not there. In addition, the contents is useless because it shows
only chapters and not sections in the chapters even though many chapters are over 50 pages
long.
This is the second APress book I bought and the previous one had the same fatal problem. I'll
never buy any more books from APress and I'd advise you to avoid them too.
Review 2:
This is, without a doubt, the most comprehensive book on the subject of JavaFX8. I do, however,
agree with the other review that it is in desperate need of copy editing. I bought the Kindle
version of it but a highly technical book likely isn't the best class of book for Kindle. I am
considering additionally buying the hard copy, although I hate the thought of buying this twice
and the price for the hard copy is way high for what this book is. I especially agree that it is
incredibly light on FXML. A second edition should include a competent copy editor as well as a
better presentation and use of FXML. Had this edition did a fuller presentation of FXML and had
better copy editing, it would easily have been a 5 star review.

This is the best JavaFX 8 book I've come across. Lot's of good detail and you can tell the author
knows the subject and isn't just putting a thin veneer over the javadocs or Oracle tutorials. I also
appreciate that the many working examples are short and to the point as I detest wading through
multi-chapter "pet projects" whose accidental complexity obscures the topic you're trying to
learn. Very good breadth as well - just the other day I was trying to implement drag and drop for
the first time. Google results weren't cutting it for me and then I consulted this book and bingo!

Highly recommend.

I purchased the Kindle version and had high hopes. I've ready the first 6 chapters, and while you
might have a different experience with the printed version, I found the Kindle version to have
quite a few instanced of poor grammar making it sometimes hard to follow. Also, while the book
would seem on the surface to be targeted to individuals interested "learning JavaFX 8," it seems
to be targeted to individuals who know a good deal of Java, but want to learn specifically about
FX. I have an intermediate Java knowledge, but I had trouble following along in some cases. I feel
like I learned much more just by with visiting Oracle's online free tutorial.
