ROMAN RELIGION
Religion
was very important
to the Romans
They
adopted many of the
Greek gods as their own
and borrowed ideas from
other cultures to create
their group of gods and
goddesses
ROMAN RELIGION
Romans
wanted to please the
gods because they believed
the gods were in control of the
daily life of the Romans
People
would leave offerings
to the gods at the many
shrines in the city ranging from
food to animals
ROMAN RELIGION
When
someone was sick, the
Romans would leave a clay
piece shaped like that body
part at the shrines to try and
please the gods
Special
days or holidays were
created to celebrate the gods,
but the Romans practiced
religion on a daily basis
ROMAN RELIGION
In
time the Romans came to
worship their emperors on
the same level as the gods
themselves
The
Romans welcomed new
ideas as the empire
expanded as long as it did
not discourage loyalty to the
emperor
