War is Over!
• Sense of Euphoria erupts all over the US
with the end of the war.
• Russian revolution caused a “RED
SCARE” in the USA - the fear of
communists, socialism or extreme ideas.
• As a result, Union organizers are
arrested, jailed and tried for disrupting
businesses all across the country.
• A ship workers strike in Seattle
paralyzed the nations transportation
RED SCARE paralyzes the

• Sept. 1919 - Steelworkers strike in Gary, IN. US
Steel claimed it was a communists activity and
used Pinkertons to break strike.
• Nov. 1919 - Policemen in Boston go on strike.
Police commissioner fires 19 of them. Whole
force strikes!
• 1920 - Palmer Raids - Attorney general sets up
raids on suspected foreign radicals and arrests
and jails 1,000’s.
• Jan 1920 - New York State Assembly voted to

Massacre
One February evening in North Chicago, seven
well-dressed men were found riddled with bullets
inside the S.M.C Cartage Co. garage. They had
been lined up against a wall, with their backs to
their executioners and shot to death. With the
exception of Dr. Reinhardt H. Schwimmer these
men were mobsters working under the leadership
of gangster and bootlegger, "Bugs" Moran. Within
a few seconds, while staring at a bare brick wall,
these seven men had become a part of
