ERASMUS MUNDUS AND ERASMUS PLUS
PROGRAMMES AND OTHER SCHOLARSHIP
OPPORTUNITIES IN EUROPE: A BRIEF OVERVIEW
• ERASMUS MUNDUS PROGRAMME – since 2010/2011 (EU) –
3 new programmes each year : June 2014 newly selected
programmes are:
– AESOP Plus (AESOP since 2014 – 2nd year successful)
• European Coordinator: Paul Sabatier University, Toulouse, France
• South African Joint Coordinator - UWC , Cape Town
– EURooSA (since 2011 successful each year – 5th consecutive year)
• European Coordinator: Antwerp University, Belgium
• South African Joint Coordinator - CPUT, Cape Town
– INSPIRE (new programme)
• European Coordinator: UPPSALA University, Sweden
• South African Joint Coordinator - UWC , Cape Town

IN EUROPE: A BRIEF OVERVIEW (Cont)
• ERASMUS MUNDUS PROGRAMMES – Cycles
– Each Programme has a 4 year cycle – starting on 1 August
and ends on 31 July;
– If all scholarships have not been allocated during the first
call for applications, a second call (cohort) could be
advertised (and sometimes a third too);
– New programmes run concurrently with existing ones
(within the three year cycle)
– Studies/exchanges will have to be finalised by the end of
a particular cycle in which a candidate was successful

OPPORTUNITIES FOR STAFF AND STUDENTS:
• EC funded Scholarships available for full time
studies or exchange periods in Europe (since
2011) and South Africa (since 2014)
• A Monthly Stipend payable to
– Masters Students - Euro 1 000
– PhD researchers/students – Euro 1 500
– Postdocs – Euro 1 800
– Staff – Euro 2 500

OPPORTUNITIES FOR STAFF AND STUDENTS:
• There are different categories of possible
candidates:
• TG1 (Target Group): You are registered / enrolled in
one of the partner universities in the project at the
moment of the submission of your application
(October 2014 - March 2015).
• TG2 (Target Group): You are registered / enrolled in
one university at the moment of the submission of
your application (October/November 2014 - March
2015) OR You are already working AND you have a
higher education diploma South Africa

• Erasmus Mundus Programmes available to SU in 2014/15:
– TG 1 (Target Group 1)
– EUROSA – coordinated by University of Antwerpen,
Belgium and CPUT, South Africa
– INSPIRE – coordinated by Uppsala University, Sweden and
UWC, South Africa
– EU Saturn – coordinated by Groningen University, the
Netherlands and University of Free State, South Africa
– TG 2 (Target Group 2) – where UP is not a Consortium
member
– AESOP – coordinated by Paul Sabatier University, France
and UWC, South Africa
– EUSA-ID – coordinated by Ruhr University Bochum,
Germany and UWC, South Africa
