About Ports
Ports are entities describe the interface of a module.
Each port is characterized by action and data. Each
module can have 0..n in-ports and 0..n out-ports.
 In-port: represent an action that will be executed when
certain data is received. E.g. : Prompt in-port of a WebI
module will be re-launched with the prompts data. Inports are visualized at the left side of the module frame.
 Out-port: represent the data that will be sent when a
certain action is performed. For example: the cell that
is sent when the user press a button in the Xcelsius
module. Out-ports are visualized at the right side of the
module frame.
 There are two types of ports:
©
Legacy
out-port
Granular
out-port
Ports details (name,
direction and parameters)

Legacy ports: Have no parameters, hence there is no indication on the data that these
ports deal with and parameter mapping is not possible. They are called “legacy” since they
compatible with previous releases content linking method.

Granular ports: Have parameters that provides information on the data these ports expect
to send/receive. Facilitate parameter mapping.

These two types have distinct visualizations.

You cannot connect a legacy port to a granular port, and vice-versa.

About Connections
Connection is an entity to describe how a source module is passing information to a
target module. It consist of:
 The source port: the out-port of the source module.
 The target port: the in-port of the target module.
 Parameter mapping (for granular connection) between parameter in the source port to the
parameters in the target port. The mapping enables correct data exchange even if the names
are not match.
 There are two connection types:
©

Legacy connection between legacy ports: Does
not include parameter mapping. Are visualized as
straight lines.

Granular connection between granular ports:
Require parameter mapping. Are visualized as
Curled lines with little circle indicates the number
of mapped parameters.

Removal of Visualization Analytics from 4.0
Note 1375008:
“As part of the product rationalization process,
SAP has decided to discontinue investing in
the Dashboard Builder visualization analytics.
This means the last version that Dashboard
Builder will ship these analytics is in XI 3.1,
including service packs. These analytics will
not be included in the next major release of
the SAP BusinessObjects product portfolio…”
The following analytics are removed:
Gauges: speedometer, barometer, thermometer, traffic lights
Charts: interactive metric trend, radar chart, bubble chart, pie chart, data exploration
The proposed solution is to replace those analytics with Dashboards visualizations.
